In her remarks, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet, the ACBA Rotating Chairwoman, affirmed that this event is a significant milestone in strengthening the relationship between ASEAN and Argentina through parliamentary diplomacy.

The partnership between ASEAN and the South American Common Market (Mercosur), of which Argentina currently holds the rotating Chairmanship, has become increasingly essential. While ASEAN has strengths in manufacturing, technology, and services, Mercosur leads in the fields of agriculture, energy and natural resources. With great potential, ASEAN and Mercosur can work together to build supply chains and promote sustainable development not only in the region but also on a global scale.

To further discuss facilitating trade exchanges and harmonizing regulations, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet suggested more regular exchanges between Argentine parliamentary bodies, as well as the establishment of joint working groups to address common issues such as climate change, food security, and digital transformation. The two sides also discussed developing an educational and cultural exchange program to enhance mutual understanding between the people of the two regions.

The signing of a free trade agreement between Mercosur member countries and ASEAN will be a historic opportunity to form one of the world's largest trade blocs, a Vietnamese diplomat suggested. The parliamentary support will play a key role in ratifying and ensuring the successful implementation of such agreements.
