Vietnam - RoK Expand Cooperation in Global Emissions Reduction Projects

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh held talks with the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s Minister of Environment Han Whajin on Nov. 1.

At the talks, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh highly appreciated the RoK's ODA program. The RoK's green ODA program will support Vietnam in implementing its commitments at COP26. Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will coordinate with the RoK to jointly implement specific cooperation programs to achieve the expected results.

For her part, RoK’s Minister of Environment Han Whajin said that the RoK has determined to become carbon neutral by 2050. The country sets the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to 2018. The RoK is constantly working towards this goal. She expressed confidence that the two countries will continue to make joint efforts on many fronts to cut carbon emissions through expanding cooperation in global emissions reduction projects.

Minister Han Whajin said that the RoK will support Vietnam with experts, technology as well and practical experience to jointly implement international commitments in the field of environmental protection and climate change response with the goal of sustainable development.

At the talks, the two ministers signed a memorandum of understanding on comprehensive cooperation in environment, expected to become a new motivation for the growth of collaboration between the two ministries in particular and the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries in general.
