Vietnam, South Africa to Boost Defense Cooperation
On the morning of June 12, at the headquarters of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, Deputy Minister of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien welcomed South African Defence Attaché, Colonel Eugene Dudley when the latter came to say goodbye before ending his term in Vietnam.
Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien affirmed that as the South African Defence Attaché to Vietnam and the head of the Military Attaché Delegation of Foreign Countries in Vietnam, Colonel Eugene Dudley has contributed to enhancing the defense cooperation and diplomatic relations between Vietnam and South Africa as well as the effective implementation of activities by the delegation.
Chien stated that by considering South Africa as an active partner of Vietnam in Africa, the defense cooperation of the two sides has been promoted in line with the 2006 Agreement on Defense ties. He also proposed the sides soon promote the signing of a memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation, thereby creating a new stimulus to strengthen the relationship towards the 30th anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic relations (1993 - 2023).

It is necessary to maintain effective consultation, dialogue, delegation exchange mechanisms, and bilateral collaboration in training, defense industry, and military medicine in accordance with the potential and needs of each country. The two sides must make efforts to strengthen linkages, share experience in participating in UN peacekeeping activities, as well as soon sign cooperation documents in the area.
In response, Colonel Eugene Dudley thanked the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and relevant agencies for supporting him during his tenure. He also expressed hope that the mutual relations, as well as defense links between the two countries, will continue to develop along with an increasingly close connection.
