Vietnamese community in Thailand pay tribute to President Ho Chi Minh

Vietnamese people in Udon Thani province of Thailand offered incense to late President Ho Chi Minh on February 1 on the occasion of the Lunar New Year, according to Nhan Dan.

Luong Xuan Hoa, Chairman of the Vietnamese People Association in Udon Thani, said the late leader of Vietnam used to live and develop a revolutionary movement among the Vietnamese community in Udon Thani as well as Thailand at large in 1928 - 1929.

In 1957, when Ho Chi Minh was still alive, expatriates in Thailand set up altars in their homes to worship him as a saint, Hoa noted.

On this occasion, he expressed his hope that the Vietnamese in Udon Thani will continue upholding solidarity and mutual support to weather pandemic-caused difficulties, preserve the country’s traditional culture, and always turn their hearts to the homeland.

Undon Thani is home to the largest number of Vietnamese-origin people in Thailand, numbering more than 15,000. Its Noong On village in Muong town, where Ho Chi Minh carried out revolutionary activities in 1928 - 1929, is currently a relic site treasured by the Vietnamese in Thailand.

Vietnamese people in Brunei have marked the Lunar New Year (Tet), the biggest and most important traditional festival of their homeland, with a ceremony recently held by the Vietnamese Embassy, according to VNA.

Ambassador Tran Van Khoa highlighted some of Vietnam’s outstanding achievements in 2021, including those in the Covid-19 combat, maintenance of socio-economic development, and vaccine diplomacy.

He applauded efforts by the Vietnamese community in Brunei in the recent past, appreciated their precious contributions to the homeland, and encouraged them to stay united and creative to jointly surmount difficulties caused by the pandemic.

As Vietnam and Brunei will celebrate the 30th founding anniversary of their diplomatic ties in 2022, Khoa also shared the plan to organize celebratory activities to promote the countries’ comprehensive partnership and increase people-to-people exchange.

He said he expects continued support and cooperation from the overseas Vietnamese for the coming activities.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (RoK) Nguyen Vu Tung visited and extended Lunar New Year (Tet) greetings to two Vietnamese-Korean families on February 1, the first day of the Year of Tiger, VNA cited.

He brought “banh chung” (square sticky rice cake) as presents to the families of Nguyen Ngoc Cam, former president of the association of Vietnamese people in the RoK, and Nguyen Thi Trinh, and offered lucky money to their children.

Talking to the Korean husbands, Tung expressed his hope that the families will pay attention to educating the younger generations and enable the children to access Vietnam’s culture and language.

He also expected the Vietnamese-Korean families will further contribute to developing the two countries’ relations and engage in celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the Vietnam-RoK diplomatic ties (December 22, 1992 – 2022).

Previously on New Year’s Eve, the Vietnamese diplomat hosted a gathering, connecting 100 different locations, to extend his best wishes to all Vietnamese people living in the RoK. He briefed them on Vietnam’s political and socio-economic situation and the two nations’ strategic partnership last year.

In Venezuela, the Vietnamese Embassy also hosted a get-together for staff of diplomatic missions and Vietnamese people living in the Latin American country on the occasion of the Lunar New Year.
