Vietnamese Community in St. Petersburg Pays Tribute to Russian Veterans

The Russia-Vietnam Cooperation Support Fund "Traditions and Friendship" held a meeting with Russian war veterans in Vietnam in Saint Petersburg, Russia on Dec. 19.

The event welcomed representatives of the Saint Petersburg government, the Vietnamese Association in Russia, the Vietnamese National Defense Attaché Office in Russia, and citizens of both countries.

The Vietnamese delegation included Colonel Tran Tien Phuong, Vietnam's Defense Attaché in Russia, Nguyen Quoc Hung, Director of the "Traditions and Friendship" Fund, representatives of Vietnamese officers and students in St.Petersburg.

The Russian side consisted of Vyacheslav Kalganov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, Colonel Alexei Skreblyukov, President of the St. Petersburg chapter of the Inter-regional Public Organisation of Veterans of the Vietnam War, and Russian veterans who served in Vietnam.

Vyacheslav Kalganov and Alexei Skreblyukov congratulated the Vietnam People's Army on the 77th anniversary of its founding (December 22, 1944 – December 22, 2021). They emphasized that the solidarity and friendship between the countries and peoples of Vietnam and Russia, which had always been warm and developed.

Colonel Tran Tien Phuong said that he wished the traditional multifaceted relations between Vietnam and Russia in general and cooperation between the two countries' armed forces in particular would continue to develop and reach fruitful achievements in the coming time. He was pleased to announce that the defense relations between Vietnam and Russia had developed to new heights.

Nguyen Quoc Hung, Director of the "Traditions and Friendship" Fund expressed gratitude to the Soviet military experts who served in Vietnam during the war. They stood shoulder to shoulder, joined hands with the Vietnam People's army, helped the residents in difficult times, and made great contributions to bilateral relations.

Anatoly Chernov and his daughter Lada Chernova, two architects who designed the Ho Chi Minh monument in St.Petersburg introduced the detailed design of the monument, which is expected to start seeking the city's approval from Dec. 22. The Ho Chi Minh monument at St. Petersburg is planned to be completed in 2023 to mark the 100th anniversary of Uncle Ho's first arrival in the city - the birthplace of the Russian October Revolution.
