Vietnam Embassy has called the Vietnamese people in Thailand to strictly comply with the host country's COVID-19 preventive regulations, in the situation that the pandemic has complicated developed in Thailand in general and Bangkok in particular with new cases surging in recent days.

The Embassy said that it was coordinating with Thailand and Vietnam's competent agencies to plan repatriation flights for citizens. It warned the Vietnamese against trying to enter Vietnam through illegal services.

According to the Embassy, the Thai Government was promoting pandemic preventive methods such as wearing a mask as mandatory when leaving the house, with the highest fine of up to 20,000 Baht (equivalent to more than USD 600) for those who did not comply in many cities and provinces.

The Embassy also asked Vietnamese citizens to avoid going to public spaces, gatherings, limit traveling between localities and immediately contact Thailand's authorities via hotlines provided by the Thai Government about COVID-19 to be supported if symptoms found.

In order to receive support from the Vietnam Embassy in emergencies, citizens can contact the Embassy's Citizen Protection hotline: (+66) 898966653 or (+66) 2650 8979 during working hours.

The Embassy will closely watch the COVID-19 situation in the area, keeping contact with the Thai Government's competent agencies to stay updated.

Thailand is facing the 3rd COVID-19 wave, in which Bangkok is the hardest-hit center. As of April 27, Thailand still has 25,973 Covid-19 patients being treated in hospitals, of which 5,665 are in field hospitals and 169 have to use mechanical ventilation.
