According to Royal Society, the Summer Science Exhibition 2026 will take place from June 30th to July 5th, 2026 at the Royal Society headquarters in central London (UK), bringing together 13 outstanding research projects from leading universities and research institutions in the UK.
Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh's project, titled "Nanomaterials: A Leap Forward in Disease Diagnosis and Treatment," was conducted by a research team at University College London (UK). It is one of 13 projects selected in this year's exhibition.
For this project, the research team focuses on developing next-generation nanostructures for medical applications, including improving the sensitivity of rapid diagnostic tests for infectious diseases. It seeks to enhance image quality in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI); and to study the application of magnetic nanomaterials in cancer treatment by increasing localized heat at the tumor site to reduce side effects for patients.
The Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition is an annual event for showcasing the most advanced scientific research in the UK through interactive models, presentations, and experiential activities for the public.
The selection of Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh's work also coincided with University College London's 200th anniversary. Prior to that, in 2010, her research group participated in this exhibition to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the Royal Society.
Speaking with a reporter from the Vietnam News Agency in the UK, the Vietnamese-born scientist felt honored to participate in an exhibition with strict selection criteria. The event not only showcases research achievements but also make the practical applications of nanomaterials in healthcare be more accessible to the public.
Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh is currently one of the leading scientists in the field of nanomaterials and biomedicine. She has been recognized by numerous international scientific organizations for her research on magnetic nanoparticles, gold nanoparticles, and the application of nanomaterials in disease diagnosis and treatment.
