Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year's celebration only consists of the ceremony part, including necessary spiritual rituals such as lacing roses, reading sutras and making offerings. No activities were held. Many Vietnamese Buddhists in Warszawa, Lodz city attended the Parents' Day ceremony at Nhan Hoa pagoda, Poland, Saturday afternoon. It was hosted by the Vietnamese Community’s Spiritual and Cultural Center.

Venerable Thich Trung Dat, who presided over the ceremony, gave a touching and concise poem of appreciation regarding Parents' Day. The ceremony was held in a solemn and warm atmosphere.

Meanwhile, needy Vietnamese households in Cambodia on Sunday were given Covid-relief presents on the occasion.

Vu Ngoc Ly, consulate general of Vietnam in Preah Sihanouk, Cambodia, has worked with the Executive Committee of the Khmer-Vietnam Association and Vietnamese benefactors to hand over daily necessities to 67 needy Vietnamese households in Preah Sihanouk City, including 10kg of rice each.

Speaking at the event, Ly spoke highly of the support and sharing of Vietnamese benefactors, saying their gesture would give overseas Vietnamese a sense of security during the pandemic.

Due to the prolonged Covid-19, many quarantine centers in Vietnam, especially those in bordering areas, have been overwhelmed and could barely admit any more patients.

Therefore, the consulate general called on overseas Vietnamese to remain in Cambodia, even though the host country has lifted entry and exist restrictions for Vietnamese citizens.

Those living in Preah Sihanouk, Koh Kong, Kampot, Kep, Kampong Speu and Takeo provinces must contact the Consulate General in case they need to return to Vietnam for urgent purposes. Those who are in financial difficulties should inform the consulate general for timely support.

In Vietnam, given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha has requested that provincial Buddhist Sanghas, Buddhist dignitaries, followers, and pagodas nationwide celebrating the festival hold requiems for the deceased virtually via online apps.

This year sees the Vietnam Buddhist Academy in Hanoi hosted an online ceremony to mark the occasion of the Vu Lan Festival, with the occasion set to draw participation of 500 monks and nuns, reported VOV.

Vietnamese Parents' Day

The festival, celebrated on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month, which fell on August 22 this year, provides children the opportunity to honor their parents and ancestors.

The day is dedicated to the parents and children make every effort to make the best out of the day. It's a day when they make their parents feel special.

While parents enjoy all the adoration poured on them, their children love pampering rather than being pampered by them. Parents' Day celebrations in Vietnam are similar to those of Mother's Day and Father's Day.
