VUFO’s Top 10 Achievements in 2022

With a strong determination to innovate in both thinking and action, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations system from central to local levels has united to overcome unprecedented difficulties, deployed synchronized, comprehensive work tasks, and achieved good results in many fields. On the celebration of the Year of the Cat, the Vietnam Times introduces 10 outstanding results in the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) work in 2022.

1. Solidarity and friendship with neighboring countries and multilateral activities: VUFO successfully organized events to celebrate the Year of Friendship and Solidarity between Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam 2022; Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Year 2022. Notably, VUFO hosted the 5th Vietnam - Laos People Friendship Festival, the 5th Vietnam - Cambodia People's Friendship and Cooperation Meeting. In 2022, VUFO and the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding on friendship and cooperation for the period 2022-2027.

In multilateral activities, VUFO and the Vietnam Peace Committee cooperated with the World Peace Council to successfully host the 22nd Congress of the World Peace Council. The Congress was attended by 200 delegates from 50 countries. The event contributes to enhancing the prestige of the World Peace Council and connecting organizations. At the same time, it helps to enhance the role and position of Vietnam, proving that Vietnam is a responsible and active member of the international community.

VUFO and its member organizations also participated in and conducted activities at many multilateral forums such as ECOSOC Partners Forum 2022, AEPF, APF, etc.

2. Organizing many events in celebration of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and its partners: Some include the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam - India and Vietnam - Austria; 45 years of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Spain; 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Korea, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Uzbekistan; 10 years of comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia; 5 years of a comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Canada...

The events are of great significance and widespread, contributing to deepening foreign relations and people-to-people cooperation with other countries to be more practical and effective.

3. Promoting diplomatic work at the provincial level: Friendship, peace, and solidarity activities are not only organized in central friendship agencies and organizations, but also many cities and localities. Notably, many activities were conducted to celebrate Vietnam – Laos, Laos - Vietnam Friendship and Solidarity Year 2022, and Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Year 2022.

Localities organize a variety of activities such as people-to-people exchanges, forums, and seminars to share experiences on cooperation in many fields. The activities such as visiting old battlefields and supporting poor and disadvantaged families in border areas have practical significance, enhancing the friendship and cohesion between the Vietnamese people and the people of bordering countries.

In 2022, VUFO has coordinated with many localities to successfully organize many conferences to strengthen cooperation in mobilizing aid from foreign NGOs in Vietnam.

4. Participating in people-to-people diplomacy activities of Party and State leaders: VUFO has followed the direction and spirit of the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress, in which people-to-people diplomacy is one of the three pillars of comprehensive and modern Vietnamese diplomacy. The Party's guiding ideology and documents of the 13th Party Congress have gradually been realized and put into life.

People-to-people diplomacy contributes to clearly showing the relationship between Vietnam and several partners, both bilaterally and multilaterally, with the presence of three pillars: Party diplomacy, State diplomacy, and People-to-people diplomacy.

5. External information work is professionalized, diversified in content and form of expression, viral, and highlighted: VUFO, its member organizations and international friends have won 5 prizes on the 8th National Award on External Information Service. One of the communication activities that impressed the public is the "Storytelling Memorabilia" contest hosted by the Vietnam Times. The contest had more than 6,200 entries, and reviewed the sacred memories of Vietnam-Laos solidarity and friendship, effectively educating present and future generations about the necessity of cultivating friendship between the peoples of the two countries.

6. Following the policies of the Party and the State on foreign affairs: VUFO quickly disseminated the contents of the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress on people-to-people diplomacy, Directive No. 12-CT/TW dated January 5, 2022, of the Secretariat on "Strengthening the Party's leadership, improving the effectiveness of people-to-people diplomacy in the new situation" to its member organizations.

On that basis, many Unions of friendship organizations at the provincial level have advised and coordinated with the Provincial Party Committees, and People's Committees of provinces and cities to educate about Directive No. 12 in various forms to officials and members of friendship associations in the area. Many localities then develop a specific plan for improving the effectiveness of this Directive.

When the Government issued Decree No. 58/2022/ND-CP dated August 31, 2022, on “registration and management of activities of foreign non-governmental organizations in Vietnam", VUFO promptly informs foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and fixes any difficulties that NGOs may encounter when operating in Vietnam.

7. Attracting aid from foreign non-governmental organizations of over USD 200 million: In the context of many difficulties, foreign non-governmental organizations’ aid mobilization in 2022 still achieved positive results with a total value of over USD 200 million. This is a great effort and accomplishment of foreign non-governmental organizations’ advocacy.

8. Successfully hosting 2 important programs: These programs include the 2022 International Friendship Exchange among the diplomatic corps, international organizations, NGOs and VUFO's member organizations in Tuyen Quang and the National Conference on people-to-people diplomacy in Cao Bang.

The national conference on people-to-people diplomacy reviewed activities, developed and implemented strategies, plans, and action plans for people-to-people diplomacy. Accordingly, VUFO synthesizes, advises, and proposes to leaders of the Party, State, ministries, and agencies in the central and local authorities; institutionalizes the Party's directives, completes the mechanisms and policies related to the organization and personnel to ensure the operation of the whole system.

9. Successfully organizing a recruitment exam: Opening on March 10, 2022, the exam helped VUFO recruit nearly 20 officers, of which 12 people will be in charge of tasks in people-to-people diplomacy and 4 will serve as technical officers.

10. Consolidating the organization, renovating infrastructure and working conditions: Organizational apparatus, a system of legal documents, and activities of the labor union, youth union, women union of VUFO have been consolidated. Headquarters and workplaces are renovated, equipped, and upgraded with modern technical equipment and the application of new technologies.
