The meeting was attended by delegations from the parliaments of AIPA member states. In her opening remarks, WAIPA 2025 President Alice Lau Kiong Yieng emphasized that this is an important forum to amplify women’s voices and strengthen their leadership role in parliaments, reaffirming Malaysia’s commitment to promoting gender equality in the region.
Delegates praised Malaysia’s role as Chair of AIPA-46, noting that the WAIPA Meeting has expanded opportunities for women to take leadership positions in ASEAN and provided practical content for the agenda of the AIPA-46 General Assembly.
At the meeting, delegates discussed and unanimously adopted three Resolutions: (1) Promoting cooperation to increase women’s political participation and leadership in ASEAN, emphasizing the need to create a legal framework and enabling environment for women to engage more deeply in political activities and assume leadership roles; (2) Empowering women and promoting gender equality through the development of the care economy; (3) Promoting gender equality through improving women’s digital skills, aiming to bridge the gender gap in the digital era, enable women to access technology, participate in the digital economy, and seize emerging job opportunities.

The Vietnamese National Assembly delegation actively participated and made substantive contributions to all three resolutions. In particular, the delegation stressed the importance of establishing common ASEAN standards for the care economy and proposed concrete solutions to remove institutional and practical barriers, thereby creating conditions for women to participate equally and sustainably in political life.
Vietnam’s inputs and proposals were well-received and highly appreciated by many member countries, significantly contributing to the finalization and adoption of the meeting’s documents. This active participation not only reaffirms Vietnam’s commitment to gender equality but also demonstrates the efforts of the Vietnamese National Assembly in promoting women’s roles and voices in regional parliamentary cooperation.
