This statement was made by Iraklis Tsavdaridis, Executive Secretary of the World Peace Council (WPC), on the sidelines of the session to adopt the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) outcomes for Vietnam’s fourth cycle. The session took place during the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

The session garnered considerable interest, with approximately 90 representatives from various countries, international organizations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) with consultative status to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) attending. Several Vietnamese NGOs were also among the participants.

Executive Secretary of the WPC Iraklis Tsavdaridis expressed his strong belief that as Vietnam prepares to commemorate several significant national anniversaries in 2025, the country remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting human rights. Foremost among these are the rights to live in peace, to enjoy welfare, to live in prosperity, and to witness continuous improvements in living conditions.

"As a member of the WPC, we support the Vietnamese people’s right to choose their path of development and progress. That is why we are here to show our solidarity with Vietnam, a resilient nation, and to witness its remarkable progress in national development, ensuring prosperity, happiness, and well-being for its people," emphasized the Executive Secretary.

The UN Human Rights Council adopted the outcomes of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR)’s fourth cycle for Vietnam as part of its 57th regular session.

The Vietnamese delegation reaffirmed its position on the UPR recommendations and provided updates on Vietnam's current efforts to protect human rights, including measures taken to ensure the safety, stability, and rapid recovery of livelihoods following Typhoon Yagi.

Duong Thi Nga, a representative of the Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation noted that across the various UPR cycles, a transparent and cooperative environment has been established by relevant ministries and agencies. The Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation has maintained channels of communication and mechanisms to enhance its role at key forums, including the UN Human Rights Council.

"We have participated in the sessions in Geneva and an extensive process of consultations with the government, target groups, and research activities. I believe this fourth cycle presents a valuable opportunity for social organizations in general, the Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation in particular, to make meaningful contributions to the overall process," said Nga.
