WPC President Pallab Sengupta: "Vietnam Feels Like Homecoming"

"For me, every time I go to Vietnam is not a visit but like returning home," said Pallab Sengupta, the new President of the World Peace Council, in an interview with the VietnamTimes.

The WPC President Pallab Sengupta said at the press conference after being elected that he loves Vietnam because it is the home country of President Ho Chi Minh.

According to Pallab, the long-standing traditional friendship between Vietnam and India was cultivated by the leaders of the two nations, President Ho Chi Minh and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The spirit of the Vietnamese people in the struggle for national independence has inspired peace-loving people all over the world, including India.

"Vietnam and India have long been each other's trusted partners. That relationship has developed into a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two country. We will strive to promote the relationship. this friendship, for peace and for justice, for social justice," said Pallab Sengupta.

He also emphasized the role of positive role of diplomacy, using the reference of the Paris Peace Agreement in Vietnam. to send a peace message: if people are willing to follow and understand the political meanings: to have a dialogue to show weakness, but to show strength.

Next year, on the occasion of 50 years of Paris Peace agreement, Pallab reaffirmed that it is an example for the global community to find solution to any conflict.

After visiting Vietnam many times, Pallab considered it his second home. What impressed him most was that Vietnamese people are very hospitable and have distinguished smiles that "come from the heart".

He was pleased to see the positive changes in many sectors.

"I see the huge changes. Vietnam has adopted the Doi moi/Renovation Policy and now it has become among the most emerging economies in the world. People's living standards have been increased, Vietnam has fulfilled the millennium goal. In term of politics, Vietnam always affirms that sovereignty and territorial integrity cannot be compromised. It is a strong result to maintain peace and stability and boost dialogue and discussion.

The fact that Vietnam is the host of the 22nd Assembly of the WPC, for Pallab Sengupta, is the recognition of Vietnam's important position and role in the world peace movement. It shoưs that Vietnam is a responsible and active member of the international community. Also, the WPC President believed that Vietnam will soon become a power, a developed country in the region and in the world.

"We are living in a world with many complicated developments, potentially threatening peace, stability and development. The goal of the World Peace Council is to act together, without discrimination. ideas, political and religious views to move towards global peace and development," said Mr. Pallab Sengupta.

Regarding future plans in his new term as WPC President, Pallab wishes to expend the influence of WPC.

"I will be responsible for the task to coordinate with other organizations, to find some areas of agreement about world peace and new world of social justice .With them, we can come an international alliance of peace movement, we can stand for peace stability, independence, for a wolrd of social justice, and to fight towards a global world order."

At the 22nd Assembly of WPC 2022, the Board Committee elected Pallab Sengupta, Secretary-General of the All India Peace and Solidarity Organization (AIPSO), as President of the World Peace Council.

He was born on January 14, 1950 in India. He was a communist with a special connection with Vietnam. During his years as the leader of international student and youth organizations, Pallab Sengupta has always shown support and provided help to protect and build the country of the Vietnamese people.

As General Secretary of AIPSO, Pallab Sengupta has organized many AIPSO activities for solidarity, friendship, and better understanding between the two country's people; closely coordinated within the framework of multilateral people-to-people exchange.

In 2017, he was awarded the Medal of Friendship by the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations in recognition of his contribution to promoting solidarity and friendship between the people of Vietnam and India.
