In addition, the “Making friends with books” project builds three child-friendly libraries each year and supports reading activities in approximately 30 schools, helping to cultivate reading habits and learning skills for around 15,000 students. The project also includes swimming lessons, implemented annually in three schools with about 100 participating students.
In 1995, the Zhi Shan Foundation began implementing humanitarian aid activities in Vietnam. In Thua Thien Hue Province, its first milestone was recorded in 1998, starting with a project for children in especially difficult circumstances. Since then, the foundation has gradually expanded its long-term initiatives in Hue, including notable programs such as the “Overcoming hardship scholarships” project, the “Support for children in especially difficult circumstances” project, the “Making friends with books” project, the “Free orthopedic surgery for children with disabilities” project, and the “Improving the quality of early childhood education” project.
Alongside its long-term programs, the Zhi Shan Foundation has also carried out timely support activities during challenging periods such as natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic, while organizing Tet gift distributions and providing nutritional support for disadvantaged children. These practical initiatives have consistently received strong support and high appreciation from the community.
With a total budget of nearly VND 72 billion dedicated to humanitarian and charitable activities in Hue, the Zhi Shan Foundation has made meaningful contributions to improving living standards, providing motivation, promoting health and well-being, and opening up future opportunities for thousands of disadvantaged children. Each program and project has delivered significant impact by enhancing living conditions, learning environments, and both the mental and physical well-being of thousands of children, students, and members of the local community.
