In recent years, the Can Tho Union of Friendship Organizations has continuously connected international resources, making positive contributions to social welfare, particularly in education and child care. As a focal point for aid mobilization, the union has closely coordinated with departments, sectors, and localities to ensure that programs and projects are implemented in line with their objectives, effectively and transparently.

In 2025 alone, the Can Tho Union of Friendship Organizations implemented 16 programs and projects and mobilized 18 new ones, with a total value of nearly VND 36 billion, contributing to improving people’s living standards and creating more development opportunities for the younger generation.

As Can Tho identifies education as the foundation of sustainable development, the implementation of this project is even more meaningful, especially as learning conditions for students in some rural areas remain limited.

Comprehensive support to expand development opportunities for disadvantaged children

The project “For the Comprehensive Development of Disadvantaged Children in Educational Institutions,” funded by TFCF, was approved by the Can Tho People’s Committee under Decision No. 463/QD-UBND dated January 30, 2026, with a total budget of over VND 11.3 billion. The project will be implemented over five years, from February 2026 to December 2030.

The project aims to improve the learning environment, enhance the capacity of teachers and parents, and provide direct support to approximately 1,200 students at five primary schools in Tan Loc Ward. In addition to upgrading facilities, the program also focuses on developing life skills, core values, and mental health care for students.

Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Vice Chairwoman of the People’s Committee of Tan Loc Ward, said that the ward still faces many difficulties, with unstable livelihoods among some residents and a large number of children in need of support. Therefore, the project is expected to provide important additional resources, contributing to improving education quality and creating a comprehensive development environment for children.

From the donor’s side, Huang Ya-Ke, Director of TFCF in Viet Nam, shared that since 2014, the organization has supported more than 10,000 disadvantaged children through programs in education, nutrition, and health care. The project in Tan Loc is a long-term cooperative initiative aimed at building a safe, positive, and sustainable learning environment.

At the ceremony, Liu Shih-Chung, Head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, emphasized that the project is not only an educational support initiative but also a testament to cultural and social cooperation between Viet Nam and Taiwan. Over the next five years, the program is expected to connect approximately 1,300 donors, support five primary schools, and benefit more than 2,000 students.

Sharing the same view, Tseng Chao-Hsin, Chairman of the Taiwan Business Association in Ho Chi Minh City, affirmed that investing in education is investing in the future, and emphasized that the Taiwanese business community in Viet Nam will continue to accompany social initiatives for sustainable development.

With the joint efforts of agencies, organizations, and the international community, the project is expected to open up better opportunities for disadvantaged children in Tan Loc Ward and contribute to building a sustainable future for the locality.
