Australia Allocates AUD 98.3 Million in ODA for Vietnam

According to information from the Australian Embassy in Vietnam, the Australian Government has reaffirmed its strong and long-term commitment to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam through increased official development assistance (ODA).

Under the 2026-2027 budget, Australia has allocated a total of AUD 98.3 million for its development partnership with Vietnam, up from AUD 96.6 million in the 2025-2026 period.

Gillian Bird, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, welcomed the announcement and stated: “In an increasingly uncertain world, Australia is a trusted partner of Vietnam. Australia’s development program in Vietnam is supporting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, while contributing to a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region for all of us.”

Australia has been a reliable and long-standing development partner of Vietnam, providing more than AUD 3 billion in development assistance since 1973. Australia’s current development partnership supports Vietnam in achieving its goal of becoming a high-income country by 2045 through investments in economic growth, human resource development, climate action, gender equality promotion, and disability inclusion.

In the 2026-2027 period, Australia will allocate a total of AUD 5.2 billion for Official Development Assistance, an increase of 2.2% compared to 2025-2026. Of this amount, an estimated AUD 1.35 billion will be allocated to Southeast Asia, an increase of AUD 73.6 million compared to the 2025-2026 budget.
