Brazilian Politicians and Scholars Honor the Historical Role of the Communist Party of Vietnam

On the occasion of the successful 14th National Party Congress and of the upcoming the Lunar New Year, on February 3, at Brasilia, the Embassy of Vietnam in Brazil organized the 96th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930-February 3, 2026).

The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, President of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB) Luciana Santos; President of the Brazil-Vietnam Friendship Association (ABRAVIET), Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Inácio Arruda attended the event. There were also Secretary General of the Brazil-ASEAN Parliamentary Friendship Group, Representative Alex Kawano and Secretary General of ABRAVIET, Pedro de Oliveira along with the representatives of the ruling Workers' Party (PT), Communist Party (PCB), and Socialist Party (PSB).

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi, emphasized that the 96th anniversary of the Party's founding this year has deep significance for the Party, State and people of Vietnam. The event is held as an opportunity to share information with international friends, including Brazilian partners and friends, focusing on the role of the Party in the revolution and the Vietnamese nation over the past time. It is also to better inform them about the development vision, strategic orientation and political determination of the Party and the whole Vietnamese nation in the new period after the XIV Congress.

Ambassador Bui Van Nghi reviewed the outstanding results in the implementation of the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress (term 2021-2025). Accordingly, the macroeconomy continues to be maintained stable; average GDP growth will reach about 6.3%/year; the GDP scale in 2025 will exceed US $510 billion, the per capita income will be over US $5,000, and the economic structure will shift towards modernization.

In his remarks, Ambassador Bui Van Nghi emphasized that the 14th Congress of the Party has just been successfully held as a political milestone of decisive significance, opening the "rising era of the nation".He noted that the Congress elected a new Central Committee and Comrade To Lam was absolutely trusted to be re-elected to hold the position of General Secretary. The congress determined the goal to make Vietnam a developing country with modern industry, high middle income, and a vision to become a developed and high-income country by 2045. The 14th Congress set a target of GDP growth in the 2026-2030 period of about 10%/year and GDP per capita of about US $8,500 by 2030.

In the field of foreign affairs, Vietnam continues to adhere to the line of independence, self-reliance, is a reliable friend and responsible partner of the international community, and wishes to expand substantive cooperation with Latin American countries, including Brazil, for the practical interests of the people of other countries.

On this occasion, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, President of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB) Luciana Santos welcomed and appreciated the success of the 14th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, considering this a particularly important political milestone, clearly demonstrating the solidarity, strength and leadership role of the Party in the cause of building socialism.

She emphasized that with a long history of 96 years of development and maturity with more than 5.6 million current party members, the Communist Party of Vietnam is recognized by PCdoB as a symbol of revolutionary heroism, anti-imperialist spirit and independent, self-reliant and consistent development. The 14th Congress has set ambitious strategic goals for the period 2030-2045, associated with high economic growth and the development of a prosperous and powerful country.

President of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB) Luciana Santos emphasized the strong relationship of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Communist Party of Brazil PCdoB as an important pillar to strengthen political trust and solidarity between the two peoples.

In addition, Deputy Minister in charge of Social Development, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil, Chairman of the Brazil-Vietnam Friendship Association (ABRAVIET) Inácio Arruda affirmed that Vietnamese thought had an international influence from a very early age, especially through the activities of President Ho Chi Minh in the communist movement and national liberation in the 1920s-1930s.

According to him, President Ho Chi Minh not only unified the communist movement in Vietnam but also created a profound theoretical influence in Latin America, including Brazil, and at the same time left many historical marks in Vietnam-Brazil relations. On the ideological basis of "from patriotism to socialism", he assessed that the 14th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam has set ambitious development goals to 2030 and a vision to 2045, emphasizing the key role of the great unity of the whole people and the young generation and the need to strengthen the sharing of experiences and resolutions of the Communist Party of Vietnam to the Latin American region.

There are representatives of scholars and experts who participated in the event. For example, Doctor of International Strategic Studies (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul - UFRGS), lecturer in International Relations of the Brazilian Institute of Education, Development and Research (IDP), Robson Cardoch Valdez, affirmed the Party's historical role and leadership capacity in nearly a century of political, economy and society transformation on the occasion of the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam, prominent through the Doi Moi line and orientations through the Congresses, especially the XIV Congress.

He assessed Vietnam as a stable, dynamic country with an increasing international position, and emphasized the important development of Vietnam-Brazil relations after the upgrade to the Strategic Partnership (2024) and the State visit of President Lula da Silva to Hanoi (2025), with the Programme of Action for the period 2025-2030 and the bilateral trade target of 15 billion USD by 2030. In the context of broader cooperation with ASEAN, the speech clarified the convergence of visions among the countries of the Global South on multilateralism, global governance reform and sustainable development, thereby affirming the proactive role of Vietnam and Brazil in contributing to building a just international, more inclusive and sustainable order.
