According to the guidelines, children under six nationwide will undergo periodic health checkups that include monitoring vital signs, assessing nutritional status, tracking mental and motor development, reviewing vaccination status, and conducting general examinations of organs and body systems such as the skin, head and neck, eyes, ears, nose and throat, oral health, respiratory system, cardiovascular system, abdomen, reproductive organs, musculoskeletal system, and nervous system.
Notably, children aged 16 to 30 months will also undergo additional screening tests aimed at early detection of autism spectrum disorder risks.
The Ministry of Health has instructed local authorities and medical units to develop periodic health checkup plans for children under six, while widely publicizing examination schedules and locations so that parents, caregivers, and guardians can proactively bring children for health screenings.

Lists of children participating in the examinations will be organized by villages and residential groups to ensure efficient implementation suitable to the capacity of each examination site, thereby improving service quality and operational effectiveness.
Regarding personnel requirements, doctors conducting examinations must hold practicing certificates or licenses appropriate to their professional scope in accordance with regulations. Medical staff participating in the program must also receive adequate training or guidance on the contents of periodic health checkups for children under six.
Under the guidelines, examinations will preferably be conducted at commune and ward health stations if they meet requirements for personnel, equipment, and professional tools. In addition, mobile examination sites may also be organized in locations convenient for parents while ensuring safety and adequate professional conditions.
Public and private healthcare facilities authorized to provide primary healthcare services may also participate in the program if they meet staffing and equipment requirements.
During examinations, medical personnel will review children’s medical histories from birth, including the mother’s health history during pregnancy, and record findings using age-appropriate periodic health checkup forms.
The Ministry of Health also emphasized that if abnormalities or illnesses are detected, healthcare facilities must promptly provide counseling, treatment, or referrals to suitable medical institutions for early intervention, helping reduce the risk of long-term impacts on children’s health and development.
