The ceremony was attended by Major General Nguyen Ngoc Ngan, Deputy Director of Political Affairs of Military Region 2; Cao Thi Tuyet Lan, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Dien Bien Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Minh Phu, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee; as well as representatives of agencies, the armed forces and local residents.

The remains of the 10 fallen soldiers buried at Tong Khao Martyrs' Cemetery this time were recovered following the process of verification, information gathering and searches conducted by the provincial Steering Committee for the Search, Collection and Identification of Fallen Soldiers' Remains, including information voluntarily provided by local residents.

Based on this information and through multiple stages of examination and verification, on September 21, Dien Bien provincial authorities recovered the remains of 10 fallen soldiers and brought them to Tong Khao Martyrs' Cemetery for the memorial service and burial.

Among the remains recovered this time was a case initially identified as those of fallen soldier Tran Xuan Doai from Quang Yen, Quang Xuong district, Thanh Hoa province. He enlisted in 1948 and was killed in action on May 19, 1953, at the age of 23.

The information and personal effects found alongside the remains provide an important basis for competent authorities to continue verifying and cross-checking records and carrying out the procedures to identify the fallen soldiers.

Speaking at the memorial service, Dien Bien provincial leaders said that for Dien Bien, the search, recovery and identification of fallen soldiers' remains is not only a particularly important political task, but also a command from the heart and a sacred responsibility of today's generation toward those who devoted their entire lives to the Fatherland.
