According to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) correspondent in Bangkok, Rachada Dhnadirek, spokesperson for the Thai Prime Minister’s Office, announced that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will lead a high-level delegation comprising government and business representatives to Hanoi on June 8-9. The visit is expected to build on the momentum generated by the recent elevation of bilateral relations following the visit to Thailand by General Secretary and State President To Lam.
Rachada stated that Prime Minister Anutin will hold talks with Vietnamese leaders and meet Thai companies operating in Vietnam as both countries seek to expand cooperation beyond diplomatic goodwill into practical projects.
The delegation includes key economic ministers, senior government officials, military leaders, and representatives from more than ten leading Thai companies investing in Vietnam.
Cabinet members joining the visit include Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Suphajee Suthumpun; Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Paradorn Prissananantakul; Minister of Defence Lieutenant General Adul Boonthumjaroen; Minister of Tourism and Sports Surasak Phancharoenworakul; Minister of Energy Akanat Promphan; and Minister of Industry Varawut Silpa-archa.
The composition of the delegation reflects Thailand’s focus on trade, investment, energy, tourism, industry, logistics, and private-sector cooperation.
The spokesperson for the Thai Government emphasized that the objective of the visit, in accordance with Prime Minister Anutin’s instructions to ministries and agencies, is to identify areas that can be advanced “immediately” with Vietnam. These include trade expansion, investment promotion, logistics connectivity, clean energy, food security, and human resource development.
Both governments believe that cooperation should not remain limited to documents or meetings, but should instead be translated into action plans, projects, and tangible outcomes that benefit the people and businesses of both countries.
Thailand and Vietnam have set a target of raising bilateral trade turnover to USD 25 billion, while figures from the Thai Government show that current trade volume has reached approximately USD 24 billion. The two countries have also agreed to pursue cooperation under the “Three Connects” strategy, encompassing production connectivity, infrastructure connectivity, and transformation connectivity.
Information from the Thai Prime Minister’s Office further indicated that during the two-day visit, in addition to meeting Vietnam’s senior political leaders, Anutin will also meet representatives of Thai private-sector enterprises investing in Vietnam to explore ways to support business expansion and unlock new opportunities in one of ASEAN’s most dynamic manufacturing and consumer markets.
On June 9, Prime Minister Anutin will attend the opening ceremony of the 3rd ASEAN Future Forum at the Meliá Hanoi Hotel. This will mark the first time a Thai Prime Minister has personally attended the ASEAN Future Forum, reflecting Bangkok’s high regard for the forum and its close relationship with Vietnam.
