According to statistics from Google Trends, searches for “slow travel” have tripled over the past five years.
This new travel trend encourages visitors to stay longer at destinations to explore, thereby posing opportunities for them to further immerse themselves in local culture, deeply connect with the community, and experience several unique tourism values.
List and ranking of destinations were based on travel platform Agoda’s booking data for the first three months of 2024.
In 8 Asian markets, the notable destinations with long-term stays include Khao Lak (Thailand), Seoul (Korea), Perhentian Island (Malaysia), Tokyo (Japan), Siargao Island (Philippines), Pekanbaru (Indonesia), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) and Ahmedabad (India).
In Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City has the most long-stay trips on average, followed by Bac Ninh Province and Phu Quoc Island, respectively. In terms of international tourism, Vietnamese holiday-makers mostly choose Manila (Philippines) as their destination aiming to enjoy slow travel.
Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam, Director of Agoda in Vietnam shared: “It is not difficult to understand why slow travel is one of the most leading and attractive trends. In such a hustle and bustle modern world, many travelers want to take advantage of their vacation to escape from the harsh reality and strengthen their connection with people and places they visit."
From diving into colorful and rich coral reefs in the Perhentian Archipelago to devouring diverse street food in Ho Chi Minh city, whether slow trip, short holiday or multi-destination exploration, Agoda promises a commitment to help travelers explore the world with great deals on more than 4 millions hotel rooms, airline ticket booking services and tour packages.
