The drawing of lots for the teams participating in the Tank Biathlon competition, which will be held within the International Army Games-2021, took place on August 16 at the Russian Alabino military training ground, reported PANO the online newspaper of the Vietnam People's Army.

According to official information from the organizing committee of the 2021 International Army Games, the official schedule of phase 1 (Individual race), the Tank Biathlon event has been announced, including the schedule of the Vietnam's team in group 2, table 1.

19 teams set to participate in the Tank Biathlon event are being divided into two groups.

Following the drawing of lots, which was attended by team leaders, coaches and members of tank crews, the tank team of the Vietnam People’s Army is set to compete against the tank crews of Mongolia, Venezuela, and Syria in the second match of the qualifying round at 8.00 p.m. on August 23 (Vietnam time) following the opening ceremony of the Army Games 2021.

The second match of the team in phase 1 will take place at 2:00 p.m. on August 26.

The final match at this stage will take place at 2:00 p.m. on August 29.

Having won their competition group's tournament in 2020 the Vietnamese Tank Contingent has ascended into the first competition group. This means that they will be competing against their counterparts from Russia, China, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Serbia, Venezuela and Syria.

According to the games’ regulations, after the qualifying round, eight best teams of Group 1 will compete in the semi-final round. On the closing day of the International Army Games, the best team will be determined during the final relay.

Speaking at the lot-drawing event, Senior Colonel Phan Hai Long, Head of the Vietnamese Tank Contingent, said that it is a great honor for the Vietnamese tank crews to compete with strong teams. The Vietnamese competitors have made thorough preparations to achieve the best possible results at the “Tank Biathlon” contest.

The participating tank contingents also drew lots to pick up the colors of their tanks and racetracks.

Long has picked a red signboard with No.2. It means that the Vietnamese tank crews will drive red tanks and compete in racetrack No.2.

Right after the draw, the Vietnam People's Army tank team went to the technical area of the Alabino training ground to observe the field, received and inspected the tanks they will control as a result of the draw.

Tank crews and the technical support team inspected the technical state of combat vehicle engines, control systems, and communications before bringing the vehicle to the gathering location to prepare for the upcoming competition day.

The International Army Games were first held in 2015 and is an annual Russian military sports event organised by the Ministry of Defense of Russia (MoD).

The 2021 Army Games is scheduled for Aug. 22 – Sep. 4 with 34 contests and 260 teams from 45 countries. Competition events will be held in Armenia, Algeria, Belarus, Vietnam, Iran, Kazakhstan, Qatar, China, Serbia, Uzbekistan, Mongolia and Russia.

The latest event marks the fourth consecutive year that Vietnam has taken part in the competition.
