The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism has issued Document No. 1967/CDLQGVN-LH to international travel companies, requesting coordination in developing transnational tourism programmes between Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia following the “One journey, three destinations” initiative.

This move is intended to implement the policy of strengthening tourism cooperation among the three countries, while assessing current conditions, and identifying difficulties and obstacles in connecting tour routes in order to propose solutions for future tourism development.

Following the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism’s requirements, businesses need to proactively study market demand and expand cooperation with partners and service providers in Laos and Cambodia to develop and operate transnational tourism products. The programmes need to promote the strengths of each destination and harmoniously connect their cultural, historical, natural, and scenic values, thereby creating more attractive itineraries for travellers.

Besides, businesses are also encouraged to diversify transport options by flexibly combining road, air, and waterway travel, while ensuring service quality, visitor safety, and suitability for the characteristics of each target market.

For programmes already in operation or under consideration, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism has requested businesses to provide basic information, including the programme name, itinerary, duration, principal destinations, means of transport, target markets, and the current or expected launch date. Each programme may be submitted with up to three illustrative images and any other relevant information.

In addition to providing details about tourism products, businesses have been asked to share the advantages and difficulties encountered in developing and operating routes connecting Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

At the same time, they are also encouraged to propose solutions to facilitate tour connectivity and tourist exchanges among the three countries. Recommendations focus on simplifying immigration, customs, and vehicle control procedures at border gates; improving transport infrastructure and tourism services; stepping up promotion and building a common brand for the “One journey, three destinations” product; developing new tourism routes; promoting digital transformation and data sharing; and strengthening links among regional businesses.

According to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, information submitted by businesses will be compiled to support research, policy development and the formulation of measures to enhance tourism cooperation among Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Outstanding programmes and products will also be selected for promotion through the communication channels of ASEAN and the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism.
