A Western Disturbance is over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu & Kashmir. A Western Disturbance is over North Afghanistan which will start affecting Western Himalayas by March 13.

According to Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is over Northwest Madhya Pradesh in lower levels and another cyclonic circulation is seen over Marathwada in lower levels.

A wind discontinuity is extending from Southeast Uttar Pradesh to Marathwada across East Madhya Pradesh. A trough is also extending from the Southeast Arabian Sea to the south coast of Karnataka across coastal Kerala.

During the last 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain and thundershower activities occurred over Kerala and light to moderate rain occurred over parts of Tamil Nadu.

Scattered light to moderate rain occurred over West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and isolated pockets of Nagaland. Assam witnessed one or two intense spells also.

Scattered light to moderate rain and snowfall occurred over Jammu & Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh. Isolated light rain occurred over Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh.

During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain and snow with one or two heavy spells are expected to occur over Western Himalayas, from Jammu & Kashmir to Uttarakhand.

Light scattered rain with one or two moderate spells may occur over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, north and east Rajasthan, parts of north Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and parts of Nagaland.

Light to moderate rain with one or two intense spells are expected over Kerala and South Karnataka. Isolated rain may also occur over Tamil Nadu.

The intensity of rain will increase on March 12th over northern plains and may cover many parts of South Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh as well as parts of Chhattisgarh.

5-Day Nationwide Forecast

According to Weather.com, as of Friday morning, a Western Disturbance (WD) is located near northern Pakistan and adjoining areas, while an induced cyclonic circulation is around Rajasthan. The WD is set to bring fairly widespread snow or rain, with hail and thunderstorms over the Western Himalayan Region (WHR), along with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and West Uttar Pradesh on Friday. On the same day, the WHR, as well as the plains, could also witness lightning, hail and gusty winds reaching the speed of up to 30-40 kmph. Accordingly, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert across all the aforementioned states on Friday.

Thereafter, the same WD is expected to move eastward, and bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over Eastern India on Saturday, and scattered to fairly widespread snow or rain and thunderstorms over Northeastern India on Saturday and Sunday.

Further, a fresh WD is located around Iran on Friday, and is moving in the eastward direction. This system is likely to affect the WHR from Saturday afternoon to Monday. The WD could bring scattered to fairly widespread snow or rain and thunderstorms over Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh on Sunday and Monday, and scattered snow/rain and thunderstorms over Himachal Pradesh on Sunday. Moreover, the northern parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh could also experience isolated very light showers on March 14.

As for the mercury levels, maximum temperatures are expected to be 4°C or less below normal over the Northeast and adjoining areas on Saturday, but near normal or below normal over Central, Southern and Eastern India in this period. Maximum temperatures will also be near normal or higher than normal across Northern, Western and Northeastern states in this period.

On the other hand, minimum temperatures will be higher than normal over Northern, Central, Western, Eastern and Northeastern India in this period. Southern India is likely to experience near-normal or slightly below-average night-time temperatures in this period.

Regional Forecast

Heavy rainfall has been forecast at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya. Fairly widespread rain/snow and thunderstorms are likely over Arunachal Pradesh. Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms have been predicted over Assam and Meghalaya.

Scattered rain/snow and thunderstorms are expected over Sikkim. Scattered rains and thunderstorms are possible over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal and Jharkhand.

Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may receive isolated rain/snow and thunderstorms, while just isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible over Odisha, Bihar, east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
