Lao and Cambodian Students Celebrate Traditional New Year at Friendship School 80

According to information from Friendship School 80, the program was attended by representatives of the Lao Embassy and the Cambodian Embassy in Vietnam, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Vietnam-Laos and Vietnam-Cambodia friendship associations, and local authorities.
The activities took place in an atmosphere rich in cultural identity, featuring artistic performances by the students and presentations on the origins, meanings, and customs of each country’s traditional New Year.

Speaking at the Bunpimay celebration, Chu Kim Phuong, Principal of Friendship School 80, extended New Year greetings to officials of the Lao Embassy in Vietnam and to the students, affirming that the school always creates favorable conditions for them to study and develop in a united and friendly environment while preserving and promoting their national cultural identities. She noted that Vietnam-Laos relations are a special relationship, nurtured by “sincere affection, steadfast loyalty, and wholehearted, meaningful support.”
Inthavong Manithong, Cultural and Educational Counselor at the Lao Embassy in Vietnam, expressed his appreciation to the school for its care and support in enabling Lao students to celebrate their traditional New Year, adding: “Those of us living far from our homeland can still feel its warmth through today’s ceremony.”

At the Chol Chhnam Thmay celebration, Chu Kim Phuong reiterated that caring for the material and spiritual well-being of international students is an important task; organizing traditional New Year celebrations helps ease homesickness and strengthens students’ attachment to their school and to Vietnam.
Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Touch Sopharrath expressed her emotion at the school’s attention and care and conveyed her thanks to the Government of Vietnam, the Ministry of Education and Training, and Friendship School 80 for their support for Cambodian students throughout their studies. On the occasion of the New Year, she also extended her best wishes to the students.
