The year 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1995-2025). To celebrate this occasion, Can Tho City, in coordination with the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, the US Embassy, and the US Consulate General, will organize the Vietnam-US Friendship Festival at Luu Huu Phuoc Park (Can Tho City) on September 13. Do Thanh Binh expressed his hope that with the support of the Consul General, the program would be a success, opening up many new opportunities for cooperation.

In terms of investment, Do Thanh Binh noted that Can Tho currently has four US direct investment projects with a total registered capital of more than 6.5 million USD. These projects focus on sectors such as vegetable oil processing, international trade, jewelry production, and food. In addition, US non-governmental organizations and foundations have carried out many meaningful support programs, including scholarships for students, provision of medical equipment, and humanitarian activities, making practical contributions to local social welfare. The city’s leadership expressed hope for continued attention and support from US agencies, organizations, and businesses in the future.

Major hospitals in the city, such as the General Hospital, the Cardiovascular Hospital, the Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Hospital, and the Eye-Odonto-Stomatology Hospital, seek to strengthen collaboration with US partners through participation in specialized conferences, hosting medical volunteers, and exchanging training programs. A number of prominent cooperation projects are being implemented, notably the Comprehensive Community Eye Care Project funded by Project Orbis Vietnam. Can Tho hopes these programs will soon continue, helping to improve healthcare quality for its residents.

For her part, Consul General Melissa A. Brown expressed her appreciation for Can Tho’s achievements, particularly after the city’s successful administrative unit consolidation and establishment of a two-tier local government structure. She expressed the wish that more US products would reach Vietnam in general and Can Tho in particular. She also affirmed her respect for the cooperative relationship between Can Tho and the US across many fields, especially in education and healthcare, thereby contributing to the promotion of global health security.
