Japanese charitable groups are planning to support foreigners affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, including overseas Vietnamese, by sending daily necessities, spawning more jobs.
Recent statistics show a large number of foreigners working in Japan are laid off from work or going unemployed as the novel coronavirus ravages the country. Vietnamese nationals are among those financially affected. Many charitable groups run by the Japanese have lent a helping hand to help those in need overcome the difficult time.
Along with activities consulting job search, those groups also provide foreigners with daily essentials such as rice, foodstuffs. Those households with children or following certain religion that requires special foods will also receive appropriate aid.
“A lot of foreigners have been getting laid-off and running out of food in stock. Our group will continue to support them in the near future”, Ms. Afuso Michie - ABC Japan Team Leader in Yokohama, Kanagawa said.
Most of the people in need could not find a job to make ends meet due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. The number might increase in the coming time due to expired unemployment insurance.
Charitable activities have become a regular activity of many Japanese volunteers for nearly a year since the pandemic broke out in Japan. On top of that, in 2020 the Japanese government has many policies to support Vietnamese interns, students, and those with expired residency. The support from the government as well as charitable organizations for foreigners would enable them to quickly overcome the COVID-19 impacts and stabilize their lives.
