In an interview with a Vietnam News Agency (VNA) correspondent in Switzerland, Anjuska Weil said she has always closely followed every step of Vietnam’s development since its independence.
“Having gone through two resistance wars, Vietnam suffered great losses and afterwards faced an embargo. Those were times of enormous difficulty. Yet, despite everything, the country persevered on its chosen path and has achieved today’s successes. From this perspective, I and my former comrades have every reason to feel proud. I hope that Vietnam will continue to achieve even greater progress in the future,” she said.

She also highlighted new advances in Vietnam-Switzerland relations, particularly through recent high-level engagements such as the meeting between Vietnamese General Secretary To Lam and Swiss President Viola Amherd (2024), the working visit of a high-level Vietnamese delegation led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Davos, and the visit to Switzerland by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man. She emphasized that the upgrading of bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Partnership, along with Vietnam’s 45-day visa exemption for Swiss citizens, represents “an opportunity to strongly promote cultural exchanges and people-to-people cooperation.”
Since its establishment, the Switzerland-Vietnam Friendship Association has carried out numerous practical activities to enhance mutual understanding and foster closer bonds between the peoples of the two countries. Its notable initiatives include: introducing the image of Vietnam and its people to the Swiss public; implementing humanitarian and microcredit projects; improving healthcare and education; supporting Agent Orange victims; and sponsoring the Binh Minh Vietnamese Language School in Zurich. Among these, the “Solidarity Day with Vietnam” has become an annual event attracting the Vietnamese community in Switzerland, serving as a platform for exchange, connection, and strengthening friendship.
The Association also maintains close cooperation with the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO); the Vietnamese Embassy in Bern; the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, the WTO and other international organizations in Geneva.
Anjuska Marija Weil expressed her hope that Vietnam-Switzerland relations will continue to be consolidated and developed, affirming that both the Association and she personally will remain steadfast in contributing to the nurturing and advancement of friendship between the two countries.
