Several Activies Planned for 50th Vietnam-Thailand Ties

The Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association on October 14 held an expanded Standing Committee meeting to evaluate the results of recent activities and agree on the direction for implementing programs to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand in Phu Tho. The meeting was chaired by Nguyen Van Thanh, former Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, President of the association.

Addressing at the meeting, Nguyen Viet Loan, Vice President cum General Secretary of the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association, emphasized that in the context of many unpredictable changes in the region and the world, including the border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, Thailand has just established a minority coalition government, people-to-people exchange activities between the two countries are still maintained actively and effectively.

From September 2024 to now, the association has carried out many outstanding activities such as attending the inauguration ceremony of the Vietnam Cultural Street in Nakhon Phanom, the Kathina robe offering ceremony at Phuc Minh Pagoda; donating an ultrasound machine to the Nghe An province's Nam Dan district Medical Center; organizing a friendly match between the Vietnam - Thailand U17 women's soccer team; attending activities commemorating the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday in Nakhon Phanom and the inauguration ceremony of a Lotus pond around the One Pillar Pagoda in Khon Kaen.

The association also participated in many activities organized by partner agencies, such as business seminars, the opening of an exhibition on President Ho Chi Minh and the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day in Udon Thani. In addition, the association also coordinated with the Thai Embassy and localities to organize business networking programs in Lao Cai province, attending the Go Supermarket Center's debut ceremony in Hung Yen province, conducting charity activities on the occasion of the Queen Mother of Thailand's birthday, and welcoming a group of Thai students to study advanced Vietnamese at Da Nang University.

According to Vice President cum General Secretary Nguyen Viet Loan, the above positive results were achieved thanks to the proactive and responsible role of the association's leaders and local branches, contributing to enhancing understanding and connection between the two people.

In the coming time, the association will focus on preparing for the 14th joint meeting with the Thailand - Vietnam Friendship Association, scheduled to be held in Hai Phong city in December 2025, and at the same time establish sub-committees to prepare for activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand (June 8, 1976 - June 8, 2026).

The association is expected to hold a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in Vinh city (Nghe An province); golf exchange between businessmen of the two countries; meeting Vietnamese and Thai businesses on the occasion of the traditional New Year; planting friendship trees in Phu Tho; participating in activities of the Thai Embassy in Vietnam; and at the same time, connecting businesses, seeking specific cooperation partners and preparing for the 15th meeting of the two friendship associations in Thailand.

The association also plans to organize a working delegation to visit and work with local friendship associations, especially in places undergo administrative merger, to strengthen the organization, increase cohesion and improve operational efficiency.

At the meeting, delegates agreed with the report of the Standing Committee and voiced their comments on many key contents including perfecting the provincial association apparatus after the merger, preparing for the 14th joint meeting with the Thailand - Vietnam Friendship Association, identifying practical products for display, and expanding the participation of local businesses.

Opinions also suggested strengthening the connection between businesses and the Vietnamese community in Thailand, promoting economic cooperation, especially supporting the export of Vietnamese agricultural products such as Son La plums to the Thai market.

Concluding the meeting, President Nguyen Van Thanh highly appreciated the sense of responsibility and work results of the Central association and its member organizations, especially the close and effective coordination between the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association and the Thailand - Vietnam Friendship Association in the past time.

He requested to urgently complete the project to organize the 14th joint meeting between the two associations, clearly defining the content, coordination mechanism and information after the meeting, ensuring quality and effectiveness. The preparation and reception should be carried out meticulously and thoughtfully, showing sincere feelings and friendship, avoiding formalities and carelessness.

Regarding business activities, he suggested building a two-way connection project between Vietnamese and Thai businesses, creating a “two-way flow” in trade and investment cooperation and promoting typical products of each country.

The Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association's President also noted reviewing and perfecting the model of local association organization in accordance with the process of merging administrative units, ensuring a compact and effective apparatus as well as maintaining the connection within the association.
