In his opening remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung emphasized that the Vietnamese community in Thailand is one of the oldest overseas Vietnamese communities and has always maintained strong ties with the homeland. In the context of the country’s ongoing integration and development, overseas Vietnamese intellectuals play an increasingly important role, not only in promoting the image of Vietnam to the world but also in directly contributing to science, education, technology, and culture.

Ambassador Pham Viet Hung affirmed that the Embassy will always act as a bridge, accompanying the community in activities connecting with the homeland, especially in research initiatives, technology transfer, and the preservation of national cultural identity.

Nguyen Trung Kien, Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, expressed the Party and State’s appreciation and recognition of the practical contributions made by the Vietnamese community in Thailand, which reflect a deep love for the homeland.

He also called on Vietnamese associations in Thailand to innovate their activities, strengthen their role as a bridge between the overseas community and the homeland, pay special attention to generational succession, and encourage the participation and contributions of young people.

The seminar heard contributions from participants on two main topics: the teaching and learning of Vietnamese in Thailand, and the role of entrepreneurs, intellectuals, and the younger generation in connecting community resources and contributing to the realization of the country’s major policies and strategies as it enters a new era.

Regarding the teaching and learning of Vietnamese, Do Thuy Ha, a lecturer with over 20 years of experience teaching Vietnamese at Chulalongkorn University, suggested taking advantage of Thailand’s education network to integrate Vietnamese language teaching in certain localities or at Vietnamese studies centers. She noted that this approach should be further researched as a way to promote the teaching and learning of Vietnamese in Thailand.

Nguyen Thi Loi, Chairwoman of the Bangkok and Surrounding Areas Women’s Association, announced that in October a “Vietnamese Language Lovers” Club will be established at a university in central Bangkok. The club will be taught directly by Vietnamese students studying in Thailand, with the aim of spreading the Vietnamese language and culture to the overseas Vietnamese community, Thai people, and international friends.

Sharing his personal family story, overseas Vietnamese Pham Thanh Tuan - who has lived in Thailand for nearly 20 years - said that in his “Vietnamese husband, Thai wife” household, he continues to teach his wife Vietnamese, cook Vietnamese dishes, and speak Vietnamese with his children. According to him, consistently using Vietnamese in daily life is an effective way to preserve the mother tongue, something he believes young families should practice.

On the topic of semiconductors - a highly competitive and rapidly growing field - Hoang Hung Manh stated: “Vietnam should focus on training human resources for integrated circuit design, and the State should provide scholarships for students to study intensively in countries with strengths in this field. This will prepare high-quality human resources, enabling Vietnam to gradually participate in the global high-tech value chain.”

In his closing remarks, Nguyen Trung Kien acknowledged the valuable contributions from participants and encouraged Vietnamese associations to continue playing a key role in strengthening solidarity, preserving, and promoting national cultural identity. He also called on the Vietnamese community in Thailand to maintain solidarity, mutual support, and compassion, all for the sake of the Vietnamese community’s identity and their connection to the homeland.

Nguyen Trung Kien shared some practical examples of overcoming challenges in promoting the use of Vietnamese abroad and noted that Vietnam is entering a new era that demands innovation for development. He also provided information on several resolutions and decisions of the Party and the State, as well as changes in laws regarding technology, education, and the economy – particularly the private sector – aimed at streamlining the organizational apparatus from the central to local levels, creating new mechanisms for Vietnam to develop and keep pace with global trends.
