The discussion centred on matching the right needs with the right partners. Rather than stopping at introducing businesses to one another, the two sides sought to establish a more concrete cooperation process: clearly identifying products, technical standards, volumes, delivery terms and payment conditions, before searching for and screening suppliers and verifying information prior to proceeding with transactions.

According to Argentina's National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC) in its August 2026 merchandise trade report, exports from the Cuyo region reached US$3.124 billion in the first eight months of 2026. Of this total, San Juan accounted for US$1.537 billion, Mendoza for US$1.043 billion, and San Luis for US$544 million. By product category, manufactured goods amounted to US$1.612 billion, processed agricultural products reached US$810 million, primary products totalled US$562 million, and fuels and energy accounted for US$139 million. These figures highlight the scale and diversity of the region's supply base, providing a foundation for Vietnamese businesses to explore suitable cooperation opportunities.

These figures show that Cuyo is more than just a geographical area on Argentina's map; it is also an economic region with a diverse supply base. Mendoza is renowned for its wine, raisins and olive oil, while the region also produces pistachios and olives and has considerable potential in minerals and industry.

Notably, copper and strategic minerals were identified by both sides as promising areas for cooperation. Copper cathodes are an important raw material for cable manufacturing, electricity transmission and numerous industrial sectors. In the short term, Vietnamese businesses could explore supply sources in major mining countries such as Chile and Peru, while also examining investment opportunities in projects in Argentina when conditions are favourable.

Renewable energy also offers opportunities for complementary cooperation with the mining sector. Electricity demand from industrial projects creates a need to develop infrastructure and ensure a stable energy supply. This could be an area in which Vietnamese businesses explore opportunities involving equipment, technology and investment.

Alongside these opportunities, the meeting underscored an essential requirement that must not be overlooked: conducting due diligence on business partners before entering into transactions. Risks relating to advance payments, legal documentation, business addresses, financial capacity and sources of goods highlight the importance of rigorous verification, particularly for high-value contracts.

The Viet Nam Trade Office in Argentina affirmed its role as a bridge between businesses, providing market information and connecting suitable partners, while emphasising the principles of transparency and the absence of hidden fees or commissions. The Trade Office does not replace businesses' own due diligence responsibilities, nor does it guarantee the fulfilment of contracts between the parties.

Another notable development was an invitation for Vietnamese representatives to visit San Juan Province, with a proposal to combine the visit with the Festival of the Sun to organise trade promotion activities and meetings with local authorities and businesses. The proposal will be discussed further with the Embassy of Viet Nam in Argentina to consider the feasibility of implementing an appropriate programme.

The key message from the meeting was that trade promotion needs to move beyond “introducing opportunities” towards “addressing businesses' specific needs”. When Vietnamese businesses clearly identify the products they wish to purchase, the required standards, quantities, target prices and transaction conditions, the search for new partners can be based on concrete requirements and lead to substantive cooperation.

With Argentina's strengths in natural resources, agriculture and industry, alongside Viet Nam's demand for raw materials and manufacturing capabilities, Cuyo could become a region of considerable interest for bilateral cooperation. The Trade Office's role is to help connect these complementary strengths on the basis of clearly defined needs, suitable partners and transparency from the outset.
