Vietnam COVID-19 Updates (March 31): No new cases in the last 24 hours

From 6 am on March 30 to 6 am on March 31, Vietnam records no new COVID-19 cases, said the Ministry of Health.

No new cases in the last 24 hours

Vietnam recorded no new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours to 6 am on March 31, the number of community infections in the country over the past two months maintained at 910.

On March 29-30, the Immunization Expansion Project organized a training course on the implementation of the Covid-19 vaccine for the Department of Health, Center for Disease Control, Provincial General Hospital, and representatives of the military of all three regions. The vaccination experience in the already-deployed 19 localities has been shared with the other localities. Up to now, all 63 provinces/cities have been trained to prepare for vaccination.

PM allocates 270 billion VND for Hai Duong to fight COVID-19

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has decided to allocate 270 billion VND (11.67 million USD) from the central budget reserve in 2021 to aid pandemic prevention and control efforts in the northern province of Hai Duong, which has recently borne the brunt of the third wave of COVID-19 outbreaks.

The Ministry of Finance was tasked with managing the sum and instructing the Hai Duong People’s Committee, with the two entirely responsible for the management and use of as well as making reports on the funding in line with regulations to ensure its efficiency, publicity, and transparency.

The PM also assigned the provincial People's Committee to promptly conduct prevention measures using financial assistance from the central budget reserve, local resources, and other legally mobilized sources. Related Reports on the pandemic prevention and control work will be submitted to the PM for consideration of the final sum allocated to the province.

Thanks to the implementation of quarantine and social distancing, among other measures in response to COVID-19, Hai Duong has so far put the epidemic under control. The province will end its ongoing social distancing period on March 31.

PM announced a budget mechanism to support localities in COVID-19 prevention

The Prime Minister has just issued a decision on the principle of targeted support from the Central Budget for local budgets in COVID-19 prevention and control.

Accordingly, in mountainous provinces and the Central Highlands, the Central Budget shall support 70% of the actual local budget expenditure as prescribed. The remaining municipalities that enjoy a ratio of at least 50% of the revenues shared to the central budget will proactively use its local budget reserve for COVID-19 control.

Those who regulate less than 50% of revenues to the central budget will get 30% support from the State Budget. The localities that have not been able to balance the remaining budgets by themselves will receive 50% support from the State Budget. The localities that use up to 50% of the local budget for COVID-19 prevention will get a maximum of 70% support.

The total number of infections in the country stays at 2,594. Of the total, 1,603 are domestically-transmitted cases, including 910 infections since the third wave of outbreaks hit the country on January 27. The death toll from the disease was still kept at 35, the administration said.

The total number of recoveries reaches 2,359, accounting for 93% of COVID-19 patients. Among active patients undergoing treatment at medical establishments across the country, 18 tested negative to the virus once, 15 twice, and 37 thrice.

As many as 46,454 people who had close contact with COVID-19 patients or entered Vietnam from pandemic regions are being quarantined nationwide, including 506 in hospitals, 19,379 in state-designated establishments, and 26,569 at their residences.

To live safely with the pandemic, the MoH advised people to remain proactive in pandemic prevention and control by continuing to wear face masks when going out, disinfecting frequently, maintaining a safe distance, refraining from mass gatherings, and making medical declarations.
