Vietnam-Nepal Friendship Association: Promoting People-to-people Cooperation

From May 3 to 9, the delegation of the Vietnam-Nepal Friendship Association led by Prof. Tran Anh Tuan, chairman of the Association, and Prof. Bui Thanh Ha, vice chairman, visited Nepal at the invitation of the Nepal Peace and Solidarity Council (NPSC). The trip contributes to enhancing understanding, friendship and cooperation between the two peoples.

Within the framework of the visit, on May 8 in Kathmandu (Nepal), the delegation had a meeting with Chairman of National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina.

At the meeting, the Chairman of Nepal's National Assembly appreciated the establishment of the Vietnam-Nepal Friendship Association, considering it an important foundation in promoting friendship and understanding between the two peoples.

Ganesh Prasad Timilsina said that the Vietnam Nepal relationship is built on the foundation of friendship, mutual understanding as well as similarities in culture. Since the two countries officially established diplomatic relations on May 15, 1975, this relationship developed and achieved good results.

The Chairman of Nepal's National Assembly emphasized that Vietnam is not only an inspiration to himself and the Nepalese in the struggle for national independence and reunification, but also a typical example in socio-economic development, hunger eradication and poverty reduction.

On this occasion, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina thanked the Government and people of Vietnam for supporting Nepal in difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic as well as on international forums.

He wished to promote the two countries' relations in the fields of economy, trade, culture, education, especially tourism.

He suggested the two sides strengthen the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level delegations, open embassies in Vietnam and Nepal, and direct flights between the two countries.

This is so that Vietnamese Buddhists and Vietnamese people as well as Nepalese people have better conditions to visit each other's countries, creating a foundation for strengthening cooperation in various fields between the two sides.

As the Chairman of the National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina will propose to the government, agencies and organizations of Nepal to create the best conditions to realize the above goals.

He also wished the Vietnam-Nepal Friendship Association, as a people's organization, to promote its capabilities and strengths to foster friendship and act as a bridge between organizations, businesses and individuals of Nepal and Vietnam.

On the same day, at the headquarters of Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) (CPV-UML), the Vietnam-Nepal Friendship Association delegation had a meeting with Dr. Rajan Bhattarai, head of the Foreign Affairs Department of CPV- UML.

Dr. Rajan Bhattarai appreciated the good relationship between Vietnam and Nepal, especially the cooperation between CPV-UML and the Communist Party of Vietnam.

He said that the potential for cooperation between the two countries is huge. The two countries need to strengthen cooperation at party, government, parliamentary and people-to-people diplomacy.

He also appreciated the role of people's organizations of the two countries in enhancing the friendship and understanding between the two peoples, laying the foundation for the development of bilateral relations.

The delegation met with leaders of a number of hotel associations and tourism associations in Lumbini province.

Previously, the delegation worked with the Nepal Peace and Solidarity Council (NPSC), leaders of local authorities, tourism associations, hotels, conservation agencies of Nepal's cultural heritages.

At the meetings, the delegation introduced about Vietnam's socio-economic situation, achievements in the Doi moi (renewal) process as well as development goals of Vietnam. They expressed their desire to develop multifaceted relations between Vietnam and Nepal, especially people-to-people relations.

The delegation worked with leaders of the Nepal Peace and Solidarity Council (NPSC).

Leaders of the Vietnam-Nepal Friendship Association also discussed with NPSC leaders on measures to coordinate so that organizations, businesses and individuals of the two countries cooperate with each other in the fields of trade, economy, culture and tourism, contributing to the development of the relationship between Vietnam and Nepal.
