According to a VNA correspondent in Bangkok, at the invitation of Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, on December 14, Party Central Committee Secretary and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung paid a visit to and held working meetings in the Kingdom of Thailand.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung took part in the delegation’s activities.

At the talks, the two ministers affirmed the importance they attach to the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, and agreed to continue strengthening political trust through maintaining exchanges of high-level and other delegations, especially in 2026, when Viet Nam and Thailand will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The two sides also agreed to enhance contacts among ministries, sectors and localities, and to effectively build on the outcomes of the 4th Vietnam-Thailand Joint Cabinet Meeting, including early coordination in formulating an Action Program to implement the comprehensive strategic partnership for the 2026-2030 period with substantive and specific contents.

The two ministers noted that economic, trade and investment cooperation continues to serve as a pillar of bilateral relations, and agreed to continue striving to soon achieve the target of 25 billion USD in two-way trade. They also agreed to implement the “Three Connectivities” Strategy in a substantive and effective manner, and to strengthen cooperation in potential and complementary fields such as energy, green transition, circular economy, digital economy and logistics.

The two sides encouraged businesses of both countries to expand investment in each other’s markets, contributing to the goal of balanced, stable and sustainable bilateral economic development.

They welcomed the close and effective cooperation between defense and security agencies, reaffirmed their commitment not to allow any organization or individual to use the territory of one country to undermine the other, and agreed to continue coordinating in the prevention and combat of transnational crime, drug trafficking and high-tech crime.

Exchanging views on regional and international issues, the two ministers emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security and safety in the region, underscored the central role of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), strengthened intra-bloc unity and solidarity, and coordinated ASEAN’s common positions and voice on regional and global issues.

After the Thai Foreign Minister shared information on recent tensions along the Thailand-Cambodia border, Minister Le Hoai Trung expressed concern over the complex developments along the border between the two countries, and called on all parties to exercise restraint, avoid escalating tensions, and resolve differences through peaceful measures and dialogue, in accordance with international law and existing regional agreements and mechanisms.

The Minister affirmed that Vietnam is ready to coordinate with ASEAN countries, including Thailand, to make active contributions to joint efforts to maintain long-term peace and stability in the region.

On this occasion, Minister Le Hoai Trung visited the Embassy of Vietnam in Thailand and met with staff members of the Vietnamese representative mission in the country.

The Minister acknowledged and highly appreciated the Embassy’s efforts in diplomatic work, citizen protection and the promotion of Vietnam-Thailand friendship and cooperation, and requested that the Embassy continue to serve as a bridge, enhance support for the Vietnamese community in Thailand, contribute to strengthening bilateral relations, and make positive contributions to the host country.
