Vietnam to Host Its First International Olympiad in AI

On July 17 in Hanoi, the National Innovation Center (NIC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, Meta Group, and other partners, officially launched the Vietnam AI Innovation Challenge 2026 (VAIC) and the 2027 International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad. This marks the first time Vietnam will host an international Olympiad dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI), underscoring the country’s growing role in global innovation and technological advancement.

VAIC 2026 is a large‑scale competition focused on core AI application development, held as part of the Vietnam AI Innovation Challenge 2026.

In the 48‑hour final round, taking place from July 17-19, participating teams will be challenged to optimize their source code, develop solutions using real‑world data, and continuously operate their models under intense time pressure to complete and present their products.

VAIC 2026 focuses on addressing practical challenges across eight key themes: finance and banking, healthcare, education and training, agriculture, smart public services, innovation, solutions for small and medium‑sized enterprises, and disaster prevention.

Within the framework of the event, the National Innovation Center (NIC), in collaboration with UNESCO and other partners, also announced the launch of the 2027 International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad. This marks the first time Vietnam will host a specialized international Olympiad dedicated to artificial intelligence.

The competition is designed for high school and university students, as well as the global technology community, with the aim of discovering and nurturing talent while fostering international cooperation in the field of AI. By hosting this landmark event, Vietnam underscores its commitment to advancing innovation and positioning itself as an active contributor to the global AI ecosystem.
