Vietnam Welcomes 6.5 Million Tourists During National Day Holiday

According to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, during the five-day National Day holiday from August 29 to September 2, the country’s tourism sector is estimated to have welcomed and served approximately 6.5 million tourist arrivals, an increase of 18.1% compared with the same period in 2025.

The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism estimates that tourist arrivals at many key destinations increased sharply during the holiday. Ho Chi Minh City welcomed 1.71 million visitors, up 17.8%, with total tourism revenue estimated at VND 4.9 trillion.

Khanh Hoa is estimated to have received 1.25 million visitors, generating approximately VND 2.1 trillion in tourism revenue. Hanoi welcomed more than 904,000 visitors, with total tourism revenue estimated at over VND 3 trillion. Da Nang received an estimated 850,000 visitors, up 37%, with tourism revenue reaching approximately VND 3.326 trillion. Ninh Binh welcomed nearly 777,000 visitors, up 84.1%, with total tourism revenue estimated at more than VND 1.03 trillion.

Several localities, including Lam Dong, Quang Ninh, An Giang, Lao Cai and Thanh Hoa, recorded high growth rates compared with the same period last year. This reflects the appeal of the domestic tourism market and the shift in tourist flows toward destinations offering a diverse range of experiences.

With proactive preparations by local authorities and businesses, along with numerous cultural programs, events and festivals, most destinations continued to maintain solid growth despite the peak season having ended.

Tourists tended to opt for short trips to nearby or neighboring destinations, with a preference for leisure and greater flexibility in choosing their means of transportation.

Resort stays, nature exploration, culinary experiences and cultural activities continued to shape tourists’ itineraries during this year’s National Day holiday.

The increase in visitor numbers, together with maintained service quality, resulted from proactive preparations by local authorities and businesses, product innovation, improved service quality and stronger management. These efforts contributed to ensuring safety and enhancing tourists’ overall experience.

Many new tourism products and services were introduced to the market. Lam Dong inaugurated the Ong Dia Rock Beach Park, while Ca Mau launched Vietnam’s largest tourist hot-air balloon. Hanoi Tourist introduced itineraries such as “Highland colors in the heart of Hanoi” and “Three regions in one day - Experiencing ethnic cultural identities in the heart of the capital.” Vietluxtour introduced Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia tours, educational and community-based tours for international students, as well as trekking, cycling and programs combining heritage experiences with seaside leisure.

This is a positive signal for international tourism in the final months of the year, particularly from October, when many markets enter their peak travel season.

Several key destinations recorded strong growth in international arrivals during the holiday. Da Nang is estimated to have welcomed more than 224,000 international visitors; Ninh Binh nearly 110,000, up 35.4%; Khanh Hoa 96,000 staying visitors; Hanoi 94,000, up 82.4%; Ho Chi Minh City 62,000, up 37.8%; Lao Cai 34,000; and An Giang nearly 27,000, up 68.7%.

Previously, in preparation for serving tourists and ensuring security, safety and service quality during the National Day holiday and the final months of 2026, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism issued Official Letter No. 2207/CDLQGVN-VP on August 12, 2026. The document was sent to tourism authorities in provinces and cities, urging them to ensure security and safety and improve services for visitors, with particular attention to traffic safety; promptly prevent negative practices and the exploitation of the holiday for illicit profit; strengthen oversight and management of service quality and tourist transportation; encourage visitors to purchase travel insurance; and warn of risks associated with spontaneous tours or tourism programs promoted or organized by individuals, KOLs and KOCs that fail to meet legally prescribed requirements.

In line with directions from the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism on preparations for the September 2 National Day holiday, provincial and municipal People’s Committees and local state tourism management agencies also issued directives to tourism service businesses to intensify demand-stimulation measures, attract visitors and ensure service quality.

They focused on developing and promoting attractive travel packages, tours and new tourism products in their localities. Tourism accommodation establishments, restaurants, tourism zones and attractions were instructed to develop and apply discounts and demand-stimulation policies, improve service quality, and comply with regulations on registration, price display and selling services at the posted prices.

Measures were also implemented to ensure security, public order and safety for tourists, as well as environmental hygiene and food safety. Localities strengthened 24-hour hotlines to receive and promptly handle feedback from visitors.

The five-day National Day holiday marked the final peak period of the 2026 summer tourism season. It took place under generally favorable weather conditions, while numerous programs, events, festivals, cultural activities and entertainment programs organized by localities and businesses helped attract both domestic and international tourists.
