A Vietnamese expatriate from Australia Justin Bui (Bui Trung Hau), Chairman of Realms Co., Ltd, on August 17 connected and mobilised sponsors through the Ho Chi Minh City Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs support rice to the city, contributing to assist people during the current difficult period.

Specifically, Bui has connected Matt Young, General Manager Group GSA Vietnam (GSASTUDIO Co., Ltd), to give the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thu Duc City five tons of rice.

A Vietnamese expatriate couple from the US, Luu Ngoc Duc and Nguyen Thi Thu Ngan, through his mobilisation, also gave the Thu Duc City People's Committee 2 tons of rice and the Gracious Kitchen in Binh Trung Dong Ward one ton of rice.

In addition, Bui and a group of friends living in Japan, the US, Australia included Yusuke Gunji, Do Vu, Nguyen Huy Quang, Nguyen Mai Dung, Pham Thanh Tai supported the HCM City's District 8 four tons of rice.

"The past two years have been relatively long for my family because I couldn't fly back to Australia to visit my parents. Due to the impact of the Covid-19, flights from Vietnam to other countries have been temporarily suspended. Faced with the current difficult situation in the city, I have called on my friends from all over the world for little help," said Justin Bui.

He hopes these rice bags can help some people, and also voiced his desire to be able to return to normal life pre-Covid-19 soon.

Previously, Bui had donated VND 20 million to the Covid-19 vaccine fund of HCM City and recently donated 10,000 N95 masks to the Thu Duc City police force.

Luu Ngoc Duc, an American expatriate, confided that this is the first time he participates in volunteer activities in the city. He also expressed his gratitude to his friend Justin Bui for introducing him to the city's Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs and these meaningful activities.

"In the near future I will inform my friends in the US and participate in more activities to support the people facing difficulties during the Covid-19 pandemic in HCM City," said Duc.

HCM City is the centre of the fourth wave of Covid-19 infections with the number of patients and deaths increasing rapidly. The pandemic imposed a big influence on activities of agencies, organisations and businesses and left a negative impact on the city’s socio-economic development and budget collection.

In particular, the pandemic has seriously affected the lives of people and poor labourers, forcing many of them to leave the city to other provinces and cities or return to their hometowns. It is estimated that the city has 1,580,110 poor households facing difficulties due to the ongoing pandemic.

To cope with the situation, the city has implemented many measures, including the application of social distancing measures since May 31. The city went into lockdown under the Prime Minister’s Directive No. 16 starting July 9 and has extended its strict social distancing measures until mid-September.

The above assistance will assure that poor residents and labourers, who are facing difficulties due to Covid-19, comply with pandemic prevention and control regulations and do not leave the city or return to their homelands.
