Vietnamese Judokas Secure 20 Golds at Southeast Asian Judo Championships 2024

The Vietnamese team earned 20 gold, 15 silver and 28 bronze medals at the aSoutheast Asian Judo Championships 2024 in Indonesia, finishing first on the medal tally, VNA reported.
The judo team brought 75 athletes to the event, including national champions such as Nguyen Hoang Thanh, Do Thu Ha, Nguyen Ngoc Diem Phuong and Nguyen Xuan Phi.
The regional championship featured 250 athletes from eight countries, namely Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and host Indonesia, competing from May 30 to June 2.

Athletes compete, for the team category, in men's competition, weight group competitions include 55kg, 60kg, 66kg, 73kg, 81kg, 90kg, 100kg, and over 100kg. The women's team competed in the weight categories 44kg, 48kg, 52kg, 63kg, 70kg, 78kg and over 78kg. For kata category, the content competition is for Nage No kata and Ju No kata.
Second place is the host team of Indonesian athletes with 9 gold medals, 15 silver medals, and 26 bronze medals. Third place is the Philippine delegation with 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals.
The Vietnam Judo Federation President Nguyen Manh Hung said that overall, athletes from countries in the region have made a lot of progress, and countries have also prepared very carefully for this tournament. Some countries have naturalized athletes. However, Hung said, Vietnamese competitors could still prove themselves even stronger. He hoped that they would get better results in the future.
Last year, Vietnamese athletes secured 29 golds, 20 silvers, and 20 bronzes and took the top position in the medal tally.
