Vietnamese Language Resonates in the Czech Republic

The final round of the contest “Honoring Vietnamese Language 2025” took place in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic on September 6. The event was organized by the Union of Vietnamese Associations in the Czech Republic under the patronage of the Embassy of Vietnam in the Czech Republic. It attracted nearly 100 contestants, who are second- and third-generation children of the community, together with hundreds of parents and fellow compatriots who came to cheer them on, creating a warm atmosphere filled with love for the homeland.

Most of the contestants were students from Vietnamese language centers across the Czech Republic. Although they had only attended a few courses, they confidently demonstrated their language abilities through a variety of performances such as poetry recitation, storytelling, singing, and painting. Many parents were pleasantly surprised by their children’s remarkable progress in speaking and using Vietnamese.

While summer is usually a holiday season for schoolchildren, for the children of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic, it is a precious time to attend Vietnamese classes, meet peers of the same age, and interact in their mother tongue. Therefore, “Honoring Vietnamese Language” is not only a useful playground but also an opportunity for them to showcase their learning achievements to their families and the community.

Speaking to a Vietnam News Agency reporter, teacher Le Hong Nhung, a member of the contest’s organizing committee, said: “The biggest goal of the contest is to create a playground where the younger generation born and raised in the Czech Republic can have the opportunity to learn, practice, and use Vietnamese. When they can speak Vietnamese, the gap between generations within families will be narrowed, and bonds will become stronger. At the same time, mastering Vietnamese helps them better understand Vietnamese culture and confidently introduce it to Czech friends.”

At the program, Nguyen Quoc Thanh, Standing Member of the Community Affairs Committee of the Embassy of Vietnam in the Czech Republic, highly appreciated the efforts of the community in maintaining the movement of teaching and learning Vietnamese, as well as in organizing this meaningful contest. He affirmed that the Embassy will always accompany and support associations, language centers, and dedicated individuals so that Vietnamese continues to be preserved and promoted in the Czech Republic.

On this occasion, the Embassy awarded certificates of merit to groups and individuals with significant contributions to the movement of teaching and learning Vietnamese, considering it an encouragement for the movement to grow stronger.

The contest “Honoring Vietnamese Language” is not only a language playground but also an occasion for the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic to affirm their love for the homeland and their connection to their roots. Amidst the rhythm of integration in a foreign land, preserving Vietnamese also means preserving identity, preserving the “Vietnamese soul” for future generations.

The laughter, proud looks, and rounds of applause resounding during the final night were proof that, despite being thousands of kilometers away from the homeland, the Vietnamese language still resonates, becoming a bond that unites the community and kindles the love of Vietnamese culture in the Czech Republic.
