The workshop brought together experts from research institutes, universities, agencies, and domestic and foreign organisations, and representatives of Vietnamese abroad.
The hybrid event was connected to sites in Laos, Japan, Taiwan (China), Sweden, Finland, Australia, and Poland, aiming to improve the efficiency of Vietnamese language teaching for nearly 6 million Vietnamese abroad.
Speaking at the workshop, Le Thi Hang, deputy head of the Continuing Education Department under the MoET, said the ministry has concertedly rolled out solutions set in resolutions and projects to promote the Vietnamese language and preserve traditional culture among Vietnamese abroad.
Domestic agencies have also coordinated with Vietnamese representative offices abroad and overseas Vietnamese associations to raise public awareness of Vietnamese language learning, she added.
Dinh Hoang Linh, Director of the Department of Information and Culture at the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, called culture and traditions, especially the mother tongue, the strength and intangible asset of each country, which bring communities together.
Preserving, nurturing, and developing the Vietnamese language is essential for Vietnamese people, both at home and abroad, he stressed.
In March, a TV programme “Chao Tieng Viet” (Hello Vietnamese language) was launched by the Vietnam Education Publishing House, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, and Vietnam Television (VTV).
“Chao Tieng Viet” is designed for overseas Vietnamese children in two age groups - from 6 to 10 and from 10 to 15, teachers, and parents who teach Vietnamese in classes or at home.
The weekly 15-minute programme is on VTV4 and its social network platforms./.
