According to the report of the People’s Committee of Dien Bien Province, from July 25 to August 4, 2025, prolonged heavy rains caused severe consequences, leaving 10 people dead (including 9 children), 14 injured, and 1,500 houses damaged. More than half a million hectares of rice fields and nearly 10,000 hectares of crops and perennial plants were buried or washed away. Facing these devastating losses, local authorities called for urgent support from domestic and international organizations.

This emergency relief project will provide direct support to 490 households through multi-purpose cash assistance, with each household receiving 3.5 million VND to cover essential needs such as food, school supplies, and daily necessities. At the same time, the project will implement clean water and sanitation improvements, including the installation of 13,000 meters of water pipes and 66 water tanks in schools and households in Xa Dung, Muong Luan, and Phinh Giang. The total number of expected beneficiaries is 5,878 people, including 2,628 children and 3,250 adults.

At the launching ceremony, Dang Xuan Vinh, Chairman of the Red Cross Society of Dien Bien Province, expressed: “On behalf of the affected communities, I would like to thank World Vision for this valuable support. We hope that in the coming time, the organization will continue to accompany us to bring more humanitarian activities, contributing to improving social welfare in Dien Bien Province.”

Vu Thi Nga, Director of Operations of World Vision International in Vietnam, emphasized: “We are committed to working closely with the provincial Red Cross Society, the Department of Foreign Affairs, relevant departments, agencies, and commune leaders to implement the project in a timely, transparent, and targeted manner, helping communities quickly stabilize their lives after the disaster. At the same time, World Vision calls for the partnership of stakeholders and the community to work together toward a life full of meaning for every child.”

On this occasion, she also recalled the close cooperation between World Vision and Dien Bien Province over the past 20 years. Since 2005, the organization’s programs have directly supported more than 34,000 children annually, including 23,000 of the most vulnerable. Notably, in December 2024, World Vision and the People’s Committee of Dien Bien Province signed an Annex to the Memorandum of Understanding for the 2022-2027 period, adding more than 7.1 million USD (about 171 billion VND), raising the total support budget to nearly 12.8 million USD (equivalent to 306 billion VND). This demonstrates a long-term commitment not only to emergency relief but also to consistent support for community development.

Therefore, the emergency relief project in Dien Bien this time not only provides timely support to overcome the consequences of natural disasters but also reflects World Vision’s humanitarian spirit and long-term responsibility in joining hands with the locality for the safety and future of children and the community.
