A ceremony was jointly held in Hanoi to award Hessen scholarships to 90 outstanding students studying in Hanoi and surrounding areas.

This year's scholarship awarding ceremony took place at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi with the attendance of Ambassador Dr. Guido Hildner, the representative of the Ministry of Education and Training, the representative of the Vietnam Study Promotion Association, the representative of the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Association and the principals of universities and colleges.

Dr. Bui Cong Tho, Chief Representative of the Hessen Scholarship Office in Vietnam, expressed his gratitude to the German organizations for their valuable support to Vietnamese students. These scholarships are not only material support but also spiritual encouragement that alleviates the difficulties of the students and helps them to achieve the highest academic results.

Since 1991, the Hessian Ministry for Science and the Arts, World University Service Germany (WUS) have granted scholarships to excellent students from difficult backgrounds at universities and colleges in Vietnam.

These scholarships are not only material support but also spiritual encouragement that alleviates the difficulties of the students and helps them to achieve the highest academic results. Moreover, it is also a bridge for the friendship between Vietnam and Germany.

In the 2022-2023 academic year, the Hessen representative office in Vietnam is providing 250 scholarships, worth EUR 216 (USD 231) each, to Vietnamese students nationwide.

In the award ceremony, the scholarships were given to 90 students in Hanoi and surrounding areas.

The remain scholarships will also be awarded to students from other regions in Vietnam.

Previously, there were scholarship awarding ceremonies for the best students of the Central Highlands region at Central Highlands University, Central region at the University of Da Nang, and Thai Nguyen area at Viet Bac College of Culture and Arts on April 18, 19, and 28 respectively.

The scholarship recipients must have excellent achievements, average grades of 7.5 or above, live in difficult conditions or in remote areas or ethnic minorities, and have social policy. This scholarship prioritizes female students.

Up to now, nearly 8,000 Vietnamese students have received scholarships from this program with a total value of over VND 55 billion (USD 2.3 million).

According to Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation under the Ministry of Education and Training, Nguyen Hai Thanh, students are not only awarded a scholarship but also honored with a scholarship certificate, signed by the Hessian Ministry for Science and the Arts himself. The certificate of scholarship is a priority for students on their way to finding jobs and increasing study opportunities in other countries, especially in Germany.
