The overseas Vietnamese community in Thailand last weekend donated nearly 1.5 million Baht (US$ 46) to the Covid-19 Vaccine Fund set up by the Vietnamese government in early June. The ceremony took place at the headquarter of the Vietnam Embassy in Thailand.

“The Vietnamese community in Thailand still support their fellow countrymen in home country, even though they are also affected by the pandemic,” Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh said. “On behalf of the community, we will send the donated money to the Vietnamese Fatherland Front as soon as possible.”

The Vietnamese Thai is among the overseas communities with the most generous donations to Vietnam. It has sent supports in early 2020 when Vietnam was first hit by the coronavirus and during the historic flooding in the central region.

“With the support from the overseas Vietnamese communities and foreigners, hopefully, Vietnam would soon stamp out the Covid-19 pandemic and boost economic growth,” Thanh added.

The ambassador also handed over the aid package worth US$ 8,000 donated by the Vietnam Covid-19 Prevention and Control to the Vietnamese community in Thailand.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese community in Poland has also handed over US$ 38,000 in donations to the State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, who would later transfer the money to the Covid-19 Vaccine Fund.

Ngo Huong Nam, a representative of the committee, expressed its appreciation for the companionship and sharing of expatriates in Poland. The Vietnamese Polish was the very first overseas donors to Vietnam when the pandemic broke out. Batches of medical necessities, including face masks, sanitizers, medicines, were timely sent to hard-hit localities.

On her part, Nguyen Viet Trieu, vice president of the Vietnamese Association, and the Vietnamese Women’s Union in Poland, said repatriates always update with the Covid situation in their home country. More contributions would be made to help stricken people across Vietnam.

Responding to the call of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Letter of Appeal from the Vietnamese Embassy in the Federal Republic of Germany, the Vietnamese community has sent representatives to the Vietnam Embassy's headquarters in Berlin to donate money to support the fight against Covid-19 in Vietnam.

Most recently, the representative of the Executive Committee of the Hai Phong Association of People in Germany gave 4,470 euros to the Embassy to send home to support the prevention of Covid-19 in the homeland.

Previously, the Golden Lotus Charity Association also gave the representative of the Embassy 5,500 euros to support pandemic prevention.

Many associations such as the Vietnamese community in Magdeburg and surrounding areas, the Vietnamese community in Westsachsen Zwickau, and many individuals and organizations have also joined hands to support people in the country to fight the pandemic, especially by contributing to the Covid-19 vaccine fund.

The National Covid-19 Vaccine Fund was initiated and launched by the Vietnamese government. It will be used for buying Covid-19 vaccines from abroad and for supporting the production of made-in-Vietnam vaccines towards fulfilling the target of inoculating 70% of Vietnam’s 98-million population.

The government is expected to provide VND16 trillion and localities nationwide as well as private sources will make up the rest, VNE reported.
