Korea's Jeonnam - Gwangju Community Learns Vietnamese Language

The Vietnamese Association in Jeonnam - Gwangju (Korea) just held the opening ceremony for 3 Vietnamese classes, opening new opportunities for culture exchange between the two countries.

On Mar. 6, the Vietnamese Association in Jeonnam - Gwangju, Korea hosted the online opening ceremony for 3 Vietnamese classes.

Attending the ceremony were representatives of the Vietnamese Association in Korea, representatives of the multicultural center of Jangheung district, Jeonnam province, 3 teachers in charge of the class along with all 38 students and 33 parents

Speaking at the ceremony, Vu Duc Luong, Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Korea, sent energetic greetings and congratulated the Vietnamese Association in Jeonnam - Gwangju as one of the three units that hosted a Vietnamese language class for multicultural families with the Vietnamese. The other units are in Daejeon and Bucheon.

"With the sponsorship of the Asian Development Fund, the Association wishes to open and develop Vietnamese language classes for children, both to preserve Vietnamese culture and to help them in future learning. The relationship between the two countries is growing stronger and closer. In the near future, the Vietnamese Association in Korea will expand and develop Vietnamese language classes to areas throughout Korea," said Vu Duc Luong.

On the occasion of the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Korea sent his best wishes to the children for their good study, thanked the teachers as well as the Gwangju Branch Executive Committee for their enthusiastic efforts with organizing Vietnamese classes for student in Korea.

Ha Kyong Min, who is in charge of managing and supporting the group of parents and students at the multicultural family center in Jang Heung district, also spoke at he event.

He acknowledged the efforts of the Vietnamese association in the area in creating a meaningful community activity during the difficult period of the epidemic.

Ha also hopes that the classes will be a bridge to bring children of Vietnamese descent closer to Vietnamese language and culture, reminding them of their roots and national pride. He believes the class is greatly beneficial for the Vietnamese in the area who wish to reconnect with their homeland.

At the opening event, the host also introduced the Vietnamese teachers.

The teachers specialized in linguistics in Vietnam and Korea and they are able to communicate with children in Vietnamese and Korean.

Hence, the program is expected to be of great help in developing communication skills under the instruction of teachers and the interactions between teacher-student and student-student.

Semester 1 will start on March 13, 2022 and end on May 15, 2022; Semester 2 will start on May 29, 2022 and end on July 31, 2022; Online learning includes 2 elementary classes.

The textbook used is the textbook "My Vietnamese" of the Hanoi National University Publishing House.

During the ceremony, all three teachers in charge of classes during this period also introduced and interacted with parents and students in both Vietnamese and Korean.

As the closing remarks, the representative of parents had a speech to express their thanks and expectations. Along with that, two of the students also used their Vietnamese language skills to perform one of the most famous Vietnamese children song: Ca nha thuong nhau (The whole family loves each other).

In response, the Vietnamese Association in Jeonnam - Gwangju thanks the attendants and promises that they will continue to accompany the teachers and students.
