Lao Cai, New Zealand to Cooperate on Human Resources Training

Lao Cai College and New Zealand company SKILLS CONSULTING GROUP LIMITED on April 17 signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in vocational training according to international standards.

In the near future, Lao Cai College and Skills Consulting will cooperate in training and certifying teachers of the college to provide comprehensive training and guidance for Electrical Engineering students according to New Zealand standards.

Organized vocational training in electrical engineering for students in two countries and granted diplomas from Vietnam and New Zealand. Also, during the training process, Lao Cai College will send students to New Zealand to complete the qualifications.

Lao Cai College is one of 70 vocational schools in the country included in the project "Developing high-quality colleges by 2025" approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1363 dated October 11, 2019. In particular, it is clearly stated that the focus on investment and promotion of international cooperation is to develop a number of vocational education establishments, and professional training to the level equivalent to the region and the world.

To implement this project, by 2025, Lao Cai College will train 24 college-level, 27 intermediate-level, and elementary-level professionals according to social needs.

The training scale is from 5,000 to 7,000 students/year, of which 30% of students and trainees at college, have intermediate or higher level training in key professions.

In 2020, the Directorate of Vocational Education (Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs) signed an agreement with New Zealand’s Government to Government Know-How (G2G) on strengthening cooperation in vocational education & training and skills development.

It is a framework for sharing best practices in vocational training policy, qualification frameworks, and industry engagement.

Under the agreement, New Zealand’s Government to Government Know-How (G2G) contributes to Vietnam's workforce improvement effort by facilitating partnerships between New Zealand’s government agencies, vocational institutions, and research institutes with the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training as well as other relevant agencies and institutions in Vietnam.

Since 1992, New Zealand's national qualification framework has been one of the first comprehensive qualification frameworks in the world. New Zealand has made efforts to renovate the training system to ensure that it can best respond to the needs of the evolving industries.

New Zealand has maintained the leading position in English-speaking countries as well as the Asia-Pacific region in terms of Worldwide Education for the Future Index 2019 by Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), reported Thanh Nien newspaper.
