Recovery of Five Fallen Soldiers' Remains at Da Sap Cave, Da Nang

On July 13, personnel from the Da Nang Municipal Military Command initially located and recovered the remains of five fallen soldiers at Da Sap Cave in Ha Nha Commune, Da Nang.

Following the groundbreaking ceremony, the search team entered the site and carefully removed layers of collapsed soil and rocks. During the operation, officers and soldiers discovered the remains deep inside the cave, mixed with mud and rock debris. Alongside the remains, they found numerous artifacts, personal belongings, and military equipment, including sandals, ballpoint pens, hair clips, medicine bottles, food containers, ammunition, and bone fragments. These findings provide important evidence for verification, identification, and clarifying information related to the fallen soldiers.

The initial recovery of the five sets of remains has been described as a particularly significant achievement, confirming the accuracy of historical documents, information, and eyewitness accounts regarding the location where officers and soldiers lost their lives at Da Sap Cave. It also provides a basis for authorities to expand the search area, with the determination to bring home the fallen soldiers who remain inside the mountain. The entire search, excavation, and recovery process has been carried out urgently, cautiously, and methodically, ensuring absolute safety while preserving all recovered artifacts for verification.

According to the plan, a memorial and burial ceremony for the five fallen soldiers will be solemnly held on the afternoon of July 14 at Dai Dong Martyrs' Cemetery in Ha Nha Commune, expressing the profound respect and gratitude of the Party organization, local authorities, armed forces, and people of the city to those who sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of the nation.

On July 13, the Cao Bang Provincial Military Command recovered the remains of fallen soldier Ma Van Gi in Lang Mon Hamlet, Minh Tam Commune, Cao Bang Province.

Ma Van Gi, born in 1924, was from Bo Meo Hamlet, Hoang Hai Commune, Quang Hoa District, Cao Bang Province (now Coc Bo Hamlet, Hanh Phuc Commune, Cao Bang Province). He was killed in action in 1947 while defending his homeland in Na Leng Hamlet, Lang Mon Commune, Nguyen Binh District, Cao Bang Province (now Lang Mon Hamlet, Minh Tam Commune, Cao Bang Province).

After receiving and verifying information about the grave, the Cao Bang Provincial Military Command developed a plan and worked closely with relevant agencies and local authorities to survey the site, determine its location, and carry out the recovery in accordance with established procedures. The recovery process was conducted carefully and respectfully, reflecting profound gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives for national liberation and national defense. The remains of Ma Van Gi are currently being kept at the infirmary of the Provincial Military Command while the required procedures are completed.

Colonel Ma Cong Hoc, Political Commissar of the Cao Bang Provincial Military Command, said the continued discovery and recovery of fallen soldiers' remains resulted from close coordination between the military, Party committees, local authorities, veterans, and local residents in providing information. Every lead and every surveyed location contributes to enriching the database used to identify and locate fallen soldiers who heroically sacrificed their lives for the cause of national liberation and the defense of the nation.
