Leveraging on the success of the inaugural training course on providing home-based care for persons with disabilities organized in September 2023, Medical Committee Netherlands - Vietnam (MCNV) and Da Nang University of Medical Technology and Pharmacy continue to hold a second training course for 20 nurses from Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, and Quang Nam provinces.

Spanning through December 2-6, the curriculum expands upon the foundational knowledge and skills covered in the previous training. In addition to providing care in terms of nutrition, personal hygiene, mobility assistance, two new modules have been introduced, which are Needs Assessment and Care Planning, and Health Education and Counselling for persons with disabilities and caregivers.

Of the 20 participants, 11 come from Huong Hoa, Dakrong, and Quang Tri city of Quang Tri, 3 from Nam Dong district of Thua Thien-Hue province, and 6 from Dong Giang district of Quang Nam province.

Dakrong and Dong Giang are two newly added districts where MCNV has expanded its service delivery in phase 2b of the Inclusion 1 Project.

Trainees who complete the course will receive a certificate of continuing medical education recognized by Circular 32/2023/TT-BYT dated December 31, 2023.

Subsequently, they will undergo further training on the specific procedures in providing home-based care services to persons with disabilities.

This training will prepare them for actively participating in screening examinations, delivering direct home-based care services, and provide guidance to caregivers in implementing effective home-based care practices as part of the Inclusion 1 Project, phase 2b.

The Inclusion 1 project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) via the CCIHP (Center for Creative Initiatives in Health and Population), owned by the National Action Center for Toxic Chemicals and Environmental Treatment (NACCET). MCNV is one of the implementing partners of the project, directly implementing the component of strengthening rehabilitation workforce and providing supporting services for persons with disabilities.

The training course, which was jointly organized by MCNV and Hai Duong Medical Technical University and took place from September 12 to 16 last September at Binh Dinh Provincial Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation Hospital, is withinphase 2b of the Inclusion 2 Project.

The curriculum included theory on the role of occupational therapy (OT) in rehabilitation for stroke patients, OT assessment and planning, the OT Practice Framework, essential OT techniques (Neuro-Developmental Treatment, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation, and so on). 32 healthcare professionals from the Kon Tum and Binh Dinh provinces have successfully completed the training program.
