At the Government’s regular press briefing for January 2026, reporters raised questions regarding salary and bonus conditions ahead of the 2026 Lunar New Year.
The Director General of the Department of Wages and Social Insurance stated that, based on recommendations from the National Wage Council, on November 10, 2025, the Government issued Decree No. 293, adjusting the regional minimum wage upward by 7.2%, effective from January 1, 2026. This adjustment is higher than those of recent years.
Specifically, in 2024, salaries were adjusted by 6%; from January 1, 2026, the adjustment rate is 7.2%.
With proactive policy advice to the Government, and particularly with the Government issuing the decree very early, as early as November, enterprises were given ample time to prepare, while also creating a positive and encouraging mindset among workers.
Following the issuance of Decree No. 293, the Ministry of Home Affairs continued to issue two guidance documents to support enterprises in implementation and established inspection teams. The results have been very positive.
The average salary of workers in 2025 reached 9.76 million VND per person per month, an increase of 11% compared to 2024.
Among them, state-owned single-member limited liability companies recorded an average salary of approximately 12.89 million VND per person per month, up 18.2% from 2024.
For domestic private enterprises, the average salary was 8.66 million VND per month, an increase of about 7% compared to 2024.
For FDI enterprises, the average salary was 10.17 million VND per person per month, up 9.6% from 2024.
Regarding bonuses, a representative of the Ministry of Home Affairs said that, based on statistical data reported by more than 50,000 enterprises with bonus plans for over 4.2 million workers, the average bonus was 8.69 million VND per person, an increase of 13% compared to the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake (At Ty).
Specifically, state-owned enterprises recorded an average bonus of approximately 9.44 million VND per person, up 23% compared to 2024. Domestic private enterprises reached 7.37 million VND, an increase of 9%. FDI enterprises recorded an average bonus of 9.21 million VND, up 12% compared to 2024.
With the Government issuing the decree early and implementation being carried out in a synchronized manner, these salary and bonus levels have helped improve workers’ incomes, stabilize their lives, strengthen their attachment to enterprises, and reduce the risk of spontaneous labor mobility.
For enterprises, reasonable increases and an appropriate roadmap have created favorable conditions for enterprises and workers to remain closely connected.
This serves as an important foundation and condition for improving labor productivity in recent times, creating strong and significant momentum to help achieve double-digit economic growth in 2026 and the years that follow.
