The program “Community Tet - Homeland Spring 2026,” organized by the Consulate General of Vietnam in Sydney on February 1, attracted more than 300 overseas Vietnamese from New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia, along with representatives of associations, community organizations, and international friends. The event was described as “a Vietnamese Tet space in the heart of Australia,” vividly recreating distinctive traditional cultural features from Vietnam’s three regions.

The festive atmosphere was filled with Spring colors, featuring peach and apricot blossoms, bánh chưng and bánh tét, lion drums, Hue Royal Court music and dance, and other traditional art performances. These elements evoked a sense of closeness and family reunion, helping overseas Vietnamese preserve their cultural identity despite living far from their homeland.

At the ceremony, Consul General Nguyen Thanh Tung emphasized that the program was not only an occasion to celebrate the Spring festival but also an important cultural diplomacy activity, affirming the attention of the Party and the State of Vietnam to overseas Vietnamese communities. He highly valued the role of overseas Vietnamese in preserving and spreading Vietnamese cultural values, as well as their participation in connectivity activities that promote deeper and broader cooperation between Vietnam and Australia across multiple fields.

Speaking at the event, many overseas Vietnamese shared their joy at immersing themselves in a traditional Tet setting and having the opportunity to interact and strengthen community bonds. For the younger generation born and raised in Australia, this was a valuable opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Vietnamese customs and cultural traditions, and to nurture pride in their roots.

At the gathering, the Consul General also presented certificates of merit to exemplary organizations and individuals who made positive contributions to the Vietnamese community in Australia. In addition, a lucky draw program was organized to enhance bonds among overseas Vietnamese families.

Community Tet 2026 activities also reflected the reality that the Vietnamese community in Australia is one of the largest and most dynamic ethnic groups, concentrated in major cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth. The community actively contributes to local social life while maintaining close ties with the homeland.

In the context of the increasingly deep and comprehensive development of Vietnam-Australia relations, cultural events such as the celebration of Tet Binh Ngo are not only occasions for family reunion but also serve as important “spiritual bridges,” contributing to strengthening national pride and enhancing understanding and connection between overseas Vietnamese communities and the country.
