Social services and organizations are providing material support to children and their families who have been affected by the global pandemic.

The 2022 Spring for Children programme raised more than VND 104 billion (US$ 4.58 million) to support disadvantaged and pandemic-hit children, reported VNA Monday.

The 15th edition of the programme was held in Hanoi on Jan. 9 night. It is an annual programme launched by the National Fund for Vietnamese Children (NFVC) under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA). Beside raising funds, the programme also honours organizations and individuals with outstanding contributions to supporting disadvantaged children over the years.

Speaking at the event, Vice President and NFVC Chairwoman Vo Thi Anh Xuan, spoke highly of efforts made by businesses, organisations and individuals at home and abroad in joining hands with the Party and State to help more than 3,400 orphans and millions of children affected by the Covid-19 pandemic surmount difficulties and stabilize their lives.

Since its inception, the programme has mobilized more than VND 1.2 trillion (US$ 52.8 billion) and provided help for nearly 1 million children.

Last year, the fund mobilized more than VND 92 billion (US$ 4 million) and assisted 115,000 children affected by the pandemic through different programmes and projects like building classrooms and playgrounds, financing surgeries and presenting bikes and scholarships to the disadvantaged children.

Elsewhere, jackets given to needy children in remote areas as a cold spell settles over Northern Vietnam.

The northern and central regions will be struck by rain and thunderstorms, with whirlwinds, lightning, hail and strong winds expected in some locations starting Jan. 10 night, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Northern and north-central Vietnam will start experiencing biting cold weather with temperatures ranging from 13-16 degrees Celsius at the lowest and even dropping to below 13 degrees Celsius in high mountains.

From Dec. 28, 2021, to Jan. 5, 2022, World Vision Vietnam has cooperated with Tua Chua Area Program Management Board to distribute warm clothes to children and families with difficult circumstances in Muong Bang, Sinh Phinh, Tua Thang, Xa Nhe Communes, and Tua Chua Town.

Specifically, 1,073 adults and children have received warm jackets. With a total value of more than US$ 13,794, the jackets will help local people keep warm at the coldest time of the year like this.

This activity is within the framework of the gift-in-kind project sponsored by the Korean YoungOne Group through World Vision Vietnam for Muong Cha, Muong Ang, Tuan Giao, Tua Chua and Dien Bien Dong. With a total value of over US$ 66 million new warm coats have been gifted to people in these five districts.

After more than a month of calling for warm winter project for children in Van Son commune, Tan Lac district, Hoa Binh province, the Korean non-governmental organization Good Neighbors International (GNI) in Vietnam has received the attention and support of many benefactors. The organization on Dec. 31 announced that over VND 17.9 million (US$ 788,55) had been contributed by kind hearts from all over the country.

With the goal of supporting winter clothes for 396 children in Van Son commune, the remain amount will be supported by GNI together with benefactors to bring warm winter to them. The organization planned to give away the good on Jan. 24.

Earlier, GNI also gave 50 warm blankets for children with difficulties in the Kindergarten and Primary school in Yen Binh town, Quang Binh district, Ha Giang province.

Although the value of those gifts is modest, GNI hopes that children are always in good health so they can study better.

GNI also has handed over 75 beddings to three kindergartens and primary schools in Tan Bac and Yen Thanh communes of Quang Binh district with a total value of more than VND 90 million (US$ 3,893).
