As an annual scientific activity of the Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation, the event aims to summarize and assess the global and regional situation in 2025. The discussion also focused on forecasting trends for 2026.

The global scene in 2025 experienced a period of significant upheaval, multiple crises, armed conflicts, and arms races across many continents. Also, the Trump administration's tariff policies have disrupted global supply chains.

This is the year that laid the groundwork for a decade of significant change ahead. Countries must adapt quickly to the complex international environment and be flexible in their policies to protect their interests.

Delegates argued that Vietnam needs sound foreign policy decisions, seizing every opportunity to continue its breakthroughs and create new strength and momentum for the country in this era of national development. The strengths of Vietnam’s three pillars of foreign policy needed to be improved, with adequate resources in foreign relations, including people-to-people diplomacy. These activities must be substantive, closely linked to the country's development goals, and make a positive contribution to national construction and defense in the new situation.

After discussing the prominent developments in the world and region in 2025, delegates offered insights and forecasts for 2026, namely the competition between the great powers and major shifts in global security, politics, and economics. They also mentioned the impact of these trends on Vietnam's foreign relations, security, and development environment.

In his remarks, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation Tran Dac Loi emphasized the significance of the seminar in the context of 2025 witnessing many major changes, accelerating the shift in the global landscape. At the same time, in early 2026, Vietnam will hold the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, setting out important decisions, including in the field of foreign affairs, to usher the country into a new era.

The delegates highly appreciated the direct and multifaceted exchanges and consultations, which contributed to clarifying the overall picture of the global situation, providing important arguments for monitoring, evaluating, and forecasting future developments, and suggesting appropriate policy directions and recommendations for Vietnam's foreign affairs.
